A little confused on how to properly integrate my sub
I mentioned it above, but the Elac Element EA101EQ is a great choice for a desktop integrated, I use one myself with a pair of Elac Uni-Fi UB5s and an SVS SB12-NSD for my computer audio.  It has digital and analog inputs, an asynchronous USB DAC, ...
A little confused on how to properly integrate my sub
Another option would be to get an integrated amp with the smarts to automatically adjust phase and polarity.  The Yamaha R-N803 or the Elac Element EA101EQ would both be great choices, and both cost around the same as the RR2160.  They both also h...
A little confused on how to properly integrate my sub
You are correct that you don’t want to run your speakers through the sub if you can avoid it.  Hook the LS50s directly to the RR2160 and the sub directly to the RR2160 via the LFE or RCA low level input, set the crossover on the sub to its highest...
What Matters and What is Nonsense
@markalarsen I’d disagree about electronics being more important than speakers.  I’ve demoed B&W 804 D3s powered by an Integra receiver running through a Magnolia switchboard and they still sounded excellent, and a clear step up from the CM10 ...
Best of the best Integrated amps in 2018
@austinbob The Lyngdorf looks like a nice unit, I'd also throw the Anthem STR Integrated into the mix, room correction plus real bass management, that alone will allow it to outperform almost any integrated without those features if you're adding ...
Classical composers, symphonies
As mentioned above, Shostakovich has a lot of big bold works.  His 5th Symphony is probably the most popular, and it's a doozy.  There's a great recording of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Charles Mackerras that I love, it's a great...
What Matters and What is Nonsense
I'd agree with most of that, though the room the recording is made in can be corrected quite a bit through microphone placement and post-processing.  Still, you're right in that the ultimate limit is always going to be in the quality of the record...
Vinyl VS Digital
I’d always imagined vinyl devotees were a bit deluded, after all, on paper CDs absolutely destroy the specs of vinyl in terms of channel separation, dynamic range, and frequency response, how good could be a format that traced its origins back to ...
Is Velodyne gone?
To be fair, Tesla has repeatedly warned and explained that the 'autopilot' feature isn't intended to take the place of an alert driver.  It can help prevent accidents on the freeway due to driver distraction, but it's not a replacement for a drive...

NAME SOME RARE AUDIO ITEMS THAT DID NOT TAKE OFF BUT SHOULD HAVE & WHY.HERE'S MY LIST
@ap1                    There are a number of companies getting into the virtual surround through headphones game.  Creative Labs, Dirac, JVC, Ossic, etc.  I tried the JVC Exofield demo at Axpona, and though it's still in the very early stages of ...
Looks like Tidal is doomed!
If Netflix can offer unlimited streaming of video content, which is often more expensive to license than audio content, for $15/month then Tidal should be able to figure out how to do audio for $20/month.I like Tidal, and they do have a reputation...
