Which Solid State Amplifier is Making you Happy?
I am using the Innersound ESL-300. I know it doesn't cost enough ($1500 used) but I stand behind it. Drove the pee-diddly out of Maggie 3.6s and sounded better the hotter it got. Never petered out. 600WPC @ 4 ohms. Now drives my Eros MkIII very we...
How to improve XM Radio audio quality?
FM CAN be better than sattelite radio. Unfortunately, here in Houston, it is not. Leaving aside the programming issues (XM is FAR superior), the one classical station here (NPR) must use a compressor/expander because that is what I hear, not to me...
How to improve XM Radio audio quality?
I'm with Joeylawn, but I run my Polk through my HHb CD Burn-it Plus and then through a dAck! It will NEVER be CD quality. Just remember, IT'S ALL ABOUT PROGRAMMING.
Morgen
My best version? O.K., it's unobtanium AFAIK, but here it is, since you asked. Very politically incorrect. I have a BASF vinyl recording of Roberta Peters(!) with Leonard Hokanson at the 'Flugel' (piano). Unbelievable, and you really need someone ...
David Sanborn's "Night Music" show
Strongly agree, and no, haven't seen any commercial copies. Too bad. There were some great performances.
Maggies...Measured Amp Power Requirements
Yeah, I don't think I got non-clipping with my 3.6s until I got the innersound ESL-300 which does 600WPC @ 4 ohms. Sounded clean and unrestrained. Also didn't blow the ribbons anymore.
AckDac vs Benchmark
Tried both for 30 days. Kept the dAck!. I did not compare the two. I DID compare the Benchmark with a Birdland ($1700) and my trusty (rusty) JVC XL-Z1010, level matched and blind. Couldn't tell a dime's worth of difference, nor could 2 audiophile ...
amps to match Magnepan MG3.6 Spkrs
Never, ever underpower the ribbons. If you like it loud (mid-90 db) in an average size room, think 300 to 600 WPC. A good example and good sounding amp is the Innersound ESL-300, used, around $1500. Do not look for 8 ohm ratings on amps as this ha...
Which solid state amp loves a 4 ohm load?
InnerSound ESL. 600wpc into 4 ohms. Kicks Maggie ass. You might be able to find one in your price range used.
Placement of Magnepan 1.6's or 3.6's
I have to think that whoever set up the photo-op on the Magnepan website didn't know anything about these speakers. I have my 3.6s on the short wall firing down the long dimension (18.5' X 11.5). I prefer nothing between me and my speakers, not ev...
Exceptional Recording of Carmina Burana
for me.
Need suggestions for a new amp 200Wpc
InnerSound ESL. Drives my Magneplanar 3.6s effortlessly and sounds as good as any tube amp.
Your Favorite Chet Baker Recording
Almost without exception, young jazz lions play (and sing) better than when they become old jazz lions. Make friends with that. Yes, the Pacific Jazz recordings, both vocal and instrumental, are the freshest. Get them. But truth to tell, Chet alwa...
What kind of power wakes up electrostatic speakers
That's a new one on me. My two ESL amps run very, very hot when I'm cranking the 3.6s, impedances are low but flat. Another friend drives his EROS MKII panels with an ESL and plays the music very loud. The amp runs cool. Another friend runs Clemen...
Rogue M-120 to Atma-sphere MA-1 Mk.II.2?
I'm not familiar with the VR-5s. Impedance and power requirements are important when matching any speaker to an amp. Paul Spletz's ZERO autoformers are designed to solve the impedance problem, if it exists. It's possible that even your Rogues migh...
