Atma-shere preamp comments
I should have said, blew away the LINE stage of the SF. My friend does not do vinyl. Regarding things on the home front, so many things have changed all at once here that it's hard to talk about the phono stage. Just got Magneplanar 3.6 and THAT c...
Atma-shere preamp comments
Just bought an MP-3 with phono stage. It blew away a Sonic Frontiers SL2 if that's a recommendation. So far, it's mighty fine.
Upgrading to Tube; Amp or Preamp
Mag 3.6. Got Paul Speltzs' Zeros as back up for my MA-1 MKII just in case :).
Upgrading to Tube; Amp or Preamp
I plan to enjoy it even more when my speakers arrive, hopefully very, very soon. Best to you, Wellfed.
Upgrading to Tube; Amp or Preamp
I think 'wellfed' is a mite optimistic regarding Atma-Sphere used prices....$2500 would be a little more like it and maybe that would include the phono stage. I owned a 565 for a couple of years and a friend of mine still owns one. It's a very goo...
gfp-750 ? any comments? good or bad
I agree with the more positive posts. Owned one for a couple of years. Very quiet, not additive, very flexible. I took a big step up and, yes, there is a difference, if you want to spend a lot more money. Class A? Well, maybe not, but damned good ...
Class "A" Tube Amp Temps? 1st Time Tuber
The hotter, the better :). I have Atma-Sphere OTL's, 12 big 6AS7 PER AMP. I had to put more air conditioning in, here in Houston. The longer they're on, the better they sound, but that's true of everything, isn't it?
Favorite solo piano players...cds
Phillip Aaberg had a solo album out in the the mid "80s called "High Plains" on Windham Hill. Nice recording of some wonderful stuff. Wonder what ever happened to him, Montana boy?

Richie Beirach on Concord. Yeah, Glenn Gould. Herbie Hancock made some solo acoutic albums in Japan in the late 70's...awesome, in this case, is not an overworked word.
Jazz and the Hammond B
There's absolutely no doubt about the importance of Jimmy Smith. The Master. Before him, I recommend Wild Bill Davis (not Davison, who was a great cornet player) who knew how to "orchestrate" the sound of a B3. He's the guy who did the orginal arr...
best mahler no. 5
No, I think the consensus has it right. If you want to go over the top (like me), you'll want the last Bernstein in pretty decent sonics. The Solti is, for me, an amazing sound, and you don't have to make too many excuses for the 1970 analog tape....
Clarinet lover s favorite
Hi Frogman: I'm glad you responded for I can tell you know your clarinet stuff.Granted, Stolzman (or RCA/BMG) has elevated the visibility of the clarinet to the great unwashed. It makes me wonder that if RCA/BMG had backed Eddie Daniels would not ...
