Your thoughts on a phono step-up transformer?
I'll retire this thread by saying that I finally settled on a brand new Denon AU-S1 step-up transformer. I bought it from The Music Room. They are very easy to deal with and I recommend them highly. The sound of the step-up was just what my system...
Ultradisc II 24kt Gold CD Resurfacing?
FWIW, my Cat Stevens 24Kt MoFi Ultradisc was cracked from the center to the CD edge. Not wanting to give it up, I laid it out flat and put a thin line of superglue along the crack. A few days later, after it had dried thoroughly, I played it on my...

Am I too big of a jerk, even for audiogon?
erik squiresIt may be the passing of member almarg, but this is the second (at least) "mea culpa" posting I have read this week. Erik, you're right, there are a lot of jerks on this forum, but I have never counted you among them. Believe me, I'd b...
Selecting used Stax phone and amp
dbphd,Today (9-24-20), there is a Stax amp (T1) and Lambda headphones available (not mine) here on Audiogon for $1,550. If you haven’t bought a pair yet, then these are for you! Take a look! The only thing the T-1 lacks are balanced inputs. That's...
Your thoughts on a phono step-up transformer?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and recommendations. I’ll give them some thought, and probably make a purchase in the very near future. The vintage MC cartridge I referenced in my posting is a Benz Micro Reference. If you have any further thought...
Is Anyone Else Not Being Able to Stay Logged in?
Funny you should ask. I have to log in each time I visit this site. It used to keep me logged in automatically. I blamed my wife, but I'm rethinking it now that I have read this thread.
Update on Audiogon Member Almarg
God bless you Al (and Margaret). This Forum will miss you.
Selecting used Stax phone and amp
dbphd,I’ll share my experience with you since it seems similar to what you’re looking for. I have owned Stax headphones and driver units for about thirty years. I started with Lambda Pros with the SRM1-Mk 2 driver amp, and now use Stax 009s with t...
Chris Isaak - Baja Sessions CD. Sounds better than it should.
We're big fans of Chris Isaak, and we've seen him live a few times. All of his albums seem well-recorded, but "Baja Sessions" is a standout. Thanks for bringing it up. I'll pull it out and listen later today.
Buying speaker cables on-line: Is this advisable?
There are many choices for speaker cables out there. If you have an unlimited budget, I think you should buy every available cable, then select the one you like the best. Failing at that, I think you should follow millercarbon’s advice and read re...

Upgrade Question
If you're confident in the Musical Fidelity sound and build quality, take a look at the Musical Fidelity Tri-Vista 21 DAC available here on Audiogon. I have no connection to the seller (Skyfi), but I'm aware that that DAC is head and shoulders abo...
Where do you buy your CDs these days?
I buy CDs from the same places that I buy my cassettes...thrift stores. If you try to buy cassettes at record stores, they want $1.99 for common ones and up to $10.00 for hard to find ones. The same record stores charge $5-$7 for pre-owned CDs. Th...
Does anyone have a Sony DVP-S9000ES that reads the SACE layer
tonnesen,My advice would be to go ahead and send the Sony to the landfill if you need SACD and look for a used Oppo 105. You won't be disappointed. I know it will play SACD.
