Anyone got a source for a pair of AR Classic tweeters?
I have had similar issues when a tube or tweeter stops working. I have been surprised how easy it is to find replacements. In general (yes, in general), the tube or tweeter has a model number stamped or printed on it. Entering the number on Google...
Remember the year and first vynil you ever bought?
My first 45's were Elvis' "Hound Dog" and "Don't Be Cruel" (flip-side) and Bobby Vee's "Rubber Ball". My first LP's were "Cat Stevens' "Tea for the Tillerman" and James Taylor's "Sweet Baby James", probably as 1970 was the first year I had the mon...
Audible Illusions M3A factory refurbished or MFA MAGUS Bruce Moore checked?
I use an MFA Magus B, and also own an Audible Illusions L1. I bought the MFA for the well-regarded phono section, the AI for the headphone amp-but it lacks phono. I recently purchased a relatively high-end phono set up with a low output MC, and al...
Advice on CD transport
I have two suggestions that fit your criteria, but both have built-in DACs. The first is a used Oppo 105 (just under $1K), the second is a used Pioneer BDP-09 FD (available periodically for a few hundred dollars). Either would make a great transpo...
Memory Lane and Lust/Looks...even somewhat strange ones....
I have several CD players but one of my favorites is the Consonance 5.0 Droplet. I bought it because it looked so cool...the sound was a bonus.
Who are your three favorite female singers?
Natalie MerchantJoni Mitchellk.d. langI also like Janis Ian. Her albums "Breaking Silence" and "Revenge" are both great.
During this isolation, I would be interested in suggestions of great movies you like.
Two of my favorite vintage, don't-miss movies are "Random Harvest" and "The Shop Around the Corner." Neither will change your life, but you will remember them for a long time and recommend them to others.
? on Pioneer CD players from the past, anyone still using one of these
I bought a Pioneer PD-65 CD player (with Stable Platter mechanism) from a liquidator for around $275 about ten years ago. I thought it was a great transport, and sold it for around $350. You can find Pioneer Elite BDP-09 FD Blu-ray Disc Players (M...
Good economical used DAC to hunt down
Benchmark DAC1. I see them on eBay and Craigslist for a few hundred dollars because they have been superseded by newer Benchmark DAC models. You'll be glad you did.
During this isolation, I would be interested in suggestions of great movies you like.
A few of my favorites are "Hoosiers" (with Gene Hackman); "The Verdict" (with Paul Newman); and "Jerry Maguire" (with Tom Cruise). I believe you would find many vintage movies you would like on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) channel.
DAC vs Tube CDplayer
What a ridiculous post! I’m an old guy too, but I would hesitate to criticize products that I haven’t, at least, tested. Your statements make NO sense. Just because you didn’t "fall for the stand alone DAC thing" doesn’t mean it isn’t valid. I did...
Your thoughts on a phono step-up transformer?
I'll retire this thread by saying that I finally settled on a brand new Denon AU-S1 step-up transformer. I bought it from The Music Room. They are very easy to deal with and I recommend them highly. The sound of the step-up was just what my system...
Ultradisc II 24kt Gold CD Resurfacing?
FWIW, my Cat Stevens 24Kt MoFi Ultradisc was cracked from the center to the CD edge. Not wanting to give it up, I laid it out flat and put a thin line of superglue along the crack. A few days later, after it had dried thoroughly, I played it on my...
Whats on your turntable tonight?

Am I too big of a jerk, even for audiogon?
erik squiresIt may be the passing of member almarg, but this is the second (at least) "mea culpa" posting I have read this week. Erik, you're right, there are a lot of jerks on this forum, but I have never counted you among them. Believe me, I'd b...
