Inexpensive turntable to play old records
I got a Dual 1218 off CL just for the same purpose. I got a box of old records and didn't want to use my Prime. The Dual was $60.
Weirdest record defect?
I got a Sundays LP (RSD I think) with all kinds of weird artifacts not present on the CD. I'd call it defective and send it back.
SEEKING ADVICE: Which component would you upgrade first?
Upgrade the signal, but what does the signal have to go through? The phono stage. IMO, the TT/cart is only as good as the phono stage.
Ortofon Cadenza vs. old Ortofon MC30 Super2 ?
I would say to try it.  Using an SUT may give you a blacker background. I would go with some used Cinemag 1254s, just to try and then maybe more expensive SUTs if you find it helps. Listening last night without the Hashimotos I didn't notice any...

Ortofon Cadenza vs. old Ortofon MC30 Super2 ?
@mirolab  I just upgraded my Modwright PH9.0 to the XT and I haven't really had the time to do any A/B stuff with and without the SUT. Being pretty lazy and having a couple of 0.2mv carts, I just kept the SUT in there. I really should compare. ...

Separate phono stage, in the +$500 range if you can swing it.
Ortofon Cadenza vs. old Ortofon MC30 Super2 ?
@mirolab  Thanks! I need to stop buying vintage carts and re-tipping them! Been looking at Van den Hul and Benz mostly, besides Ortofon. Honestly I'm perfectly happy with what I have now, but the greener grass keeps calling. I run all my MC t...
Ortofon Cadenza vs. old Ortofon MC30 Super2 ?
@mirolab I’m listening! Was sitting here listening to my MC 30 Super wondering just good it is and where I should go next. Thanks for the comparison and review! Perhaps a Cadenza or something in that range is on the horizon.
SUT With a Manley Steelhead RC?
IME, loading is all about gain. I don't worry about it too much.  Low output low impedance.  High output, high impedance.  That's about it. It's one detail I don't sweat. The only reason to put a SUT on a Steelhead, IMO is to bypass whatever Ma...
For the love of...kits?
I like building my own stuff. Very satisfying when it powers up and sounds good. Also easier to upgrade. My amp is from Analog Ethos and I also have an EAR clone. I just got some Fostex full range and am pondering the enclosure build.
Small factor phono stage
EAR or Hagerman. I haven't heard but maybe Luxman or Zesto.  Also EAT Glo. Tavish Adagio is really good too, but separate power supply.
2a3 Tubes - Favorites?
Running RCAs. I found that coupling caps make a difference also.  When I changed from the EH/Gold Lions to RCA it was fairly big. After upgrading the coupling caps, I put the EH back and the sound was pretty close.
Copper vs. Silver tonearm wire
I like bright! My VPI is hardwired at the junction box with DH Labs Pro Studio silver plated copper. I use pure silver in other places and can't really tell the differences from the Pro Studio. Copper though is for sure less bright and warmer.
