Recommendations for MM Phono ~ Tube or Solid State
You have it backwards: Uesugi produced components under the TEAC name.

If you are still looking for an SUT I just got an Uesugi Bros Type H 1:10. Might be a bit better than my Hashimoto HM-7. Only one record in but so far so good. The Type L is 1:20. The SUTs were done in collaboration with Tamura, rumor says.

@evelyn1  I'm running the Pro Studio. You think the BL-ag is better?
What % Of Your System Are Your Cables?
7% but my cables were all DIY. If I bought the same cables ready made it would be higher. I remember in the olden days, it was 1/3 source, 1/3 speaker and 1/3 cable.
What is the first thing you do when you unwrap a new vinyl record?
Clean with GrooveWasher and put in sleeve.
Phono preamp or SUT for low output moving coil
First you have to figure out how much gain you want/need. Both your phono stages run around 60db which is good for most MC carts. I run a cart with 0.2mv and run at about 75db (1:15, 30ohm) which is a lot for me.  If I need more volume, I just t...

DH Labs also has a Cyber Monday DIY sale, 25% off bulk cable and connectors. I too would like to know about Nordost.  I don't know why, my Q10s are doing good but I have a hankering to try some Red Dawn or similar.  Both of course are silver plat...
What devices have you found useful when inspecting your stylii for cleanliness?
5-10x loupe
Rega NAIA phonopreamp

Phono stage for second system
@mpomerantz I also built an older Hagerman Cornet and it was very good, probably keep up with $1k stages. Another person I know went through an Icon Audio and Modwright PH9.0, ended up with the Trumpet and is very happy.
Has anyone heard the Gato Audio PPA-1 phone preamp?
Interesting. I wonder why they decided on adjustable capacitance instead of impedance? Seems like at that price point more folks would be running a MC.
Phono stage for second system
The phono stages I know of in that range are all full sized or separate power supply types. I would maybe consider a Hagerman Trumpet MC or Darlington Labs MP8B if room is a deal breaker. I consider both giant killers. I still run a Hagerman Bugl...
VPI Prime Upgrade
I have a Prime. For me, I think it's a solid table and if I were to upgrade I would just go with a Fatboy arm.  Maybe a speed control. Or you can just go Prime 21 or Classic.

@lewm  Have you seen what's inside the Modwright compared to Aric's MM stage? Always trying to simplify the signal path which is why I run SETs.
How do you pick your gear? Tips and insights are welcome.
I try to read as many head to head comparisons I can and cross reference them. I read the professional reviews also but only if they compare against a reference component. Mostly try to read as many user reports I can find.
