Who needs a Diamond Cantilever...? 💍
I think that Mulveling nailed it when he posted, "Maybe it could be argued that and a (possibly) more rigid stylus bonding could account for the improved sound over boron on the same cartridge, if the mass vs. stiffness is a wash :)"A photomicrogr...
Best sub for music,
Thanks Ralph!
Best sub for music,
@atmasphere , since JH raised the issue of amplification, what do you think? I'm getting what I think is good performance with an older Bryston SST.How important is the amplifier in a system of subs?
Spring-Loaded Screw Turns Drywall Into Sound-Absorbing Panels
I say Quietrock. I built my 2-channel room with Quietrock 545 - more than an inch thick, with embedded sheet steel. Not cheap - but cost-effective. The quality of the silence is remarkable - actually, most people DO remark on it as soon as they ent...
Any Love For Bryston Here?
Last month got a factory reconditioned 4BSST for my subs. Talk about cost-effective!!
Do You Ever Find Yourself Unable to Listen To Your System?
@wlutke    +1Caffeine is a sleep-killer. So is alcohol. It's hard to enjoy anything when sleep-deprived.
LYRA DELOS CARTRIDGE TOO BRIGHT, THIN AND SHRILL SOUNDING
I have a Koetsu which is highly sensitive to setup. Suggest you check:(1) VTA: try the cartridge tail down(2) Azimuth: turn it a fraction of a degree and observe increase or decrease in distortion(3) torque of mounting screws (I'm not kidding) wit...
Adding Home Theater To 2 Channel System
I solved this problem by positioning TWO centre channel speakers next to the TV, between the main L and R speakers. Those two speakers were smaller versions of the L and R mains. Two more small speakers for surround speakers, and I had HT when I w...
Problem with Bryston 4B SST.
Factory. Call the factory.
Recommendations for speakers that sound great at lower volume levels.
This afternoon I was listening to my Quad ESLs at very low volume: pure magic. BUT not bass you can feel - I think that's impossible at low volume.
Putting together turntable rig
I'm with pindac on 'Newly Cleaned'. I use ultrasound, and it's by far the best way. IMO
Clear my confusion
@bigkidz is right. Get a tech to inspect the schematic and identify the most critical resistors and capactors (typically the input resistors and the gain resistors), and upgrade those to the best you can afford. I use nude Vishay resistors, which ...
warmest speaker cables you've heard?
Any high inductance speaker cable will do. Longer is warmer. Price is irrelevant.
Can a Classe SSP replace a dedicated stereo pre?
I have an SSP-800 for the HT in one room and dedicated two channel in another. They sound much different - but both of them sound good.
Problem with Bryston 4B SST.
Good advice Jerrold. If that fails, call Bryston. They are very helpful and have SUPERB customer service.
