Step by Step How to Use a Digital Multimeter / Oscilloscope for Azimuth Adjustments
@lewm  is dead right.According to Peter Lederman, matching electronically usually means equalizing channel separation, which is a bad idea which can lead to a poor adjustment. So if you have a high end cartridge, with natural channel separation of...

Don't recall specifics, but they looked impressive, were MILSPEC and cost $50. The inexpensive were noname Taiwan, I think - $.01 back in the day in a big bulk lot. You've started on a most rewarding journey. It led me all the way to ground up DIY....
Turntable versus tonearm versus cartridge: which is MOST important?
Cartridges wear out. Tables and arms don't. Do the arithmetic.
Advice on dedicated room
@lemonhaze, I disagree. I think it is better to make the room as good as possible, and then treat it. But then, my crystal ball has been busted for some time now.
cassettes CAN sound better than vinyl.
My cartridge sounds good, respectable even, from the moment the stylus is dropped. At 30 minutes it sounds better. At 60 minutes better yet. At 120 minutes, sublime. A cassette recording made at 120 minutes sounds better than the cartridge when the...

Sorry Dnicol. I was referring to my own electronics, DIY. I built in 20 cartridge loadings from 5R0 to 86K. That feature cost me $1000 in parts, but was well worth it.

@redwoodaudio "my MC Hammer adams family cassingle?  Put your money where your mouth is."What on earth are you talking about? Is this some kind of famous thing like Fermat's Last Theorem? Or just ...?

Let’s think of the ways in which a CR-7 could be better than vinyl. Let’s assume that the Nak’s important caps have been bypassed by styrene or teflon, drive mechanism is belt rather than gear, and that the machine is otherwise to spec, and Dolby ...

Should have added, that's 500R with no SUT, just straight in.

You are MUCH better off using the ML option, because every resistor type has it’s own sonic signature. I have tested extensively in my own phono stage, and the results range from sublime to unlistenable. The worst was the most expensive resistor a...
Advice on dedicated room
I spent a gob of money on a dedicated two-channel room 2 years ago, managing to avoid most of the usual pitfalls. One of the most successful money pits was Quietrock 545. It REALLY works. 5 layers of drywall, one layer of sheet steel, 1 1/4" thick....
Measuring "Stylus Drag" with the RPM Speed and Wow app
As @lewm points out, lots of variables. But at least one measurement isn't hard: Analogue Productions test record 1 KHz tone, running into a frequency counter.Control condition: with platter up to speed, disconnect motor and measure the time requi...
What process do you use to purchase cables?
Another thing to beware of is corrosion. Conductors clad in permeable dielectric like cotton will probably corrode over time.
What process do you use to purchase cables?
If you like what you have, good. That's an excellent place to start. Now, before you spend another dime, test every candidate IN YOUR SYSTEM and see if any of them is worth the money. That's for interconnect and speaker cable. Then there's power. I ...
Helping a friend build a new system
Two things: what I like and what your friend likes may be very, very different. The only sane way to buy hardware is to audition, audition, and audition some more. Then make a decision. A specialist dealer is your friend. But remember: your ears, ...
