Tidal and MQA..two questions.
Has anyone else found 16/44 Tidal on Roon doesn't sound as good as the same track ripped and served locally by Roon? My wife actually noticed this - we were playing an orchestral piece and she commented the sound was anemic and lacking, "something...
Tidal and MQA..two questions.
@grannyring right, MQA does certainly sound better than Spotify’s highest quality (320kbps MP3). We would lose the only practical "audiophile-quality" streaming service if Tidal goes away. Will enough people care, at least from a business perspect...
Tidal and MQA..two questions.
It's hard to see Tidal succeeding in the long term. There just isn't a strong enough value prop over Spotify for most users. All of my friends at work (tech millennials) have Spotify, I'm not aware of a single Tidal user except the fringe audiophi...
Contemplating DEVORE SPEAKERS (and others)....LONG audition report of many speakers
Also I have heard the Audiovector SR 3 Avantgarde Arreté, a floorstanding version of the SR 1 (I think $12k). It's fuller and richer, but IMO not as fun as the SR 1, doesn't have the same transparency and magic. I think a SR 1 with a good subwoofe...
Contemplating DEVORE SPEAKERS (and others)....LONG audition report of many speakers
Hi @prof - thanks for the fascinating thread, great to follow your journey. Super interested as based on your comments, your listening tastes feel pretty convergent with mine and you're looking for exactly what I want - a reasonably sized, aesthet...
What is an excellent power cable?
Hi @xenon - I agree, the choices are daunting, and there is no shortage of opinions but it's very hard to apply them to one's specific situation. When I'm reviewing gear it's only more complicated as I have to try so many different permutation of ...
Subwoofer for Ayre AX-7e?
@ctsooner no worries, I was being a little reactive too. I'll hit you up about those amps. :)
Subwoofer for Ayre AX-7e?
@audioconnection I'll get around to my local Vandy dealer soon enough, it's about 10 blocks from me. ;)
Subwoofer for Ayre AX-7e?
@jazztherapist another speaker option is something like the Silverline Prelude, a little above budget ($1500) but you may be able to find one used. I reviewed the original model maybe 10 years ago and thought it was very good, making good on its p...
Subwoofer for Ayre AX-7e?
@ctsooner I think you mistake me for the anti-Vandy crowd. :) Not taking issue with your liking and recommending a brand, and certainly not trying to start a flame war or even a debate. But my general sense is there is a tendency here (and on the ...
Subwoofer for Ayre AX-7e?
Just as a reminder, with no offense to the Vandy crowd, there are also many other good speaker options. ;)
Subwoofer for Ayre AX-7e?
@jazztherapist if you do decide to move on from the Epos and continue building your system around the AX7e, one thing that may help narrow the search is focusing on speakers that are reasonably efficient (at least 87db/watt) and a relatively easy ...
Subwoofer for Ayre AX-7e?
@ctsooner yup understood, was mostly sharing those tips more broadly. I remember your rig from another thread, sounds VERY NIICE as Borat would say. :)Not to hijack the thread, but AX5, Pass, Constellation, Gryphon, and Chord are some of the SS am...
Subwoofer for Ayre AX-7e?
@jazztherapist the AX7e definitely sounds best with a balanced source, but I’ve found it quite acceptable with single-ended, e.g. my Monarchy NM24 tube DAC still sounds quite good, as does the single-ended output of the PS Audio DirectStream DAC v...

@tomic601 transmission lines are the bomb. I haven't heard the Vandersteen but have heard a couple of Bud Fried's old designs, as well as the Role Audio models. They have a tuneful bass quality that's unique to the alignment.Agree it's always a go...
