How many NICE looking high end floor standing speaker are there at present
@jnovak I play the violin - studied in conservatory but decided I wanted to make enough money to buy hifi so switched to engineering. 😁 I have to say it’s a hard no on the Lawrence Audio Violins though... :)
How many NICE looking high end floor standing speaker are there at present
It’s interesting comparing what audiophiles think is acceptable or even “nice” looking to my wife’s opinion - pretty much everything mentioned in this thread gets a “HELL NO” from her. 😂 An exception is Audiovector - she said “this is ok” and I ev...
Tube Preamp with Solid State Amp?
Valvet is a good example of a manufacturer that subscribes to the tube pre/solid state amp school of thought. Can read some of my impressions here:https://taww.co/post/190866808752/valvet-a4-mkii-amp-soulshine-preampI also used the Valvet Soulshin...
Has anyone tried the Audience Forte F3 power cord?
@curiousjim sorry for never getting back to you - life got busy and hifi had to take a back seat for a while. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the Forte so much, including on the DirectStream DAC which I also have. I still have my review samples and r...
$3000 stand mounted speakers?
@mjcmt  yeah I think Dynaudio tends to work better with high current solid state amps, and i think the Special Forty would benefit from higher damping factor. The Silverline I meant was the Minuet Grand. Much more musically accurate than the Dynau...
I am frustrated with the sound from my DAC
In general I haven’t loved the sound of the Sabre-based DACs I’ve heard, with the exception of Resonessence (former Sabre engineers I believe) and the Merging (studio grade and $$$$) which leads me to wonder if the chips just need a certain amount...
$3000 stand mounted speakers?
The Dynaudio Special 40 is a fun speaker at this price point. Not the most neutral and I found the mid bass to be under damped (cello wolf tones were a problem), but dynamic and engaging with a nice full sound. Maybe not the best match for an SET ...
Speaker recommendations 10 to 30k and no beryllium
Was searching myself in this price range and just placed an order for the Audiovector SR 6 ($25k). My room is much larger than yours and the Audiovector R 3 ($10k) may be sufficient. Definitely not for every taste and system but they are very fast...
Review: Silverline SR17 Supreme speakers
@char2 anytime, let us know how it goes!
Review: Silverline SR17 Supreme speakers
Also the mounting requirements are a bit different given their different enclosure philosophies and construction - Audiovector prefers isolation (e.g. rubber pads) as is the fashion these days, Silverline is old school and prefers coupling (Blu-Ta...
Review: Silverline SR17 Supreme speakers
Hi @char1 - I wound up buying both the Silverlines and Audiovectors. :) They are quite different but both extremely capable. My wife, an oboist, prefers the Silverlines over pretty much anything else she's heard, and for acoustic music I don't dis...
New to audio. Is there a good DAC that can produce layers of sound?
Hi @talkskiwon - first off, welcome to the wonderful world of hifi! It's a fun, if maddening/eccentric/crazy, hobby. :)I think I understand what you mean by "layered" - it's one of the special qualities of high-end reproduction that makes it so al...
Recommendation for an audiophile speaker cord that is not "bright"?
I can second the Audience recommendation in terms of tonal balance. However I’m not sure it will be a good match for Wilsons. Audience cables are fairly light gauge and Wilson speakers tend to be difficult (low impedance) loads and current hungry....
Any Love For Bryston Here?
I think the 4B Cubed is a hell of an amp, and a sleeper in the high-end. It won't give you all the tactility and liquidity of the best Class A/tube stuff, but it gets you 90% of the way there with indestructible build quality few in the high-end c...
Again the topic of weight of amps
For < 60 lbs or so I can recommend the Bryston 4B3 and Valvet A4 Mk II monos  (review forthcoming for both). The Bryston has more than enough power for most people and while the Valvet is only 55w, it sounds equally dynamic with a reasonable lo...
