Crutchfield's Speaker Compare
Fascinating, I’ll have to check this out! I agree with the comments that this can be a very useful thing within the context of relative comparisons. To everyone crapping on it as useless, I think you’re completely missing the point. (This is comin...
Looking for a speaker cable with a relaxed sound.
Ah yes my bad, you have silver ribbon wire. In that case, even Cardas Clear will be warm and lovely for you. :) I would also add Furutech to that list. I am currently reviewing DSS-4.1 and it is an incredible cable, completely honest in a very mus...
Looking for a speaker cable with a relaxed sound.
Audience is a very safe bet for a cable that’s more relaxed and slightly warm without losing detail or extension. I use Au24 SX a lot and while it’s not the best absolutely speaking or in every situation, it’s very consistent and reliably musical....
What have you been working on in 2020?
(I did also get another rPi as a Roon endpoint but that was all of half an hour assembling and setting up. Pretty happy with how close to plug and play it is nowadays with Ropieee etc.)
What have you been working on in 2020?
I’ve gone a bit in the opposite direction perhaps, somewhat counterintuitively I’ve found myself working more and with less free time in COVID times so I’ve gone the “time is money” route and invested in some expensive upgrades (speakers, amp, pre...
Best Speakers for a small Nearfield room, budget at most $10000 (used is also ok)
One thing that is kind of neat about Audiovector is when you place them close to the wall, instead of collapsing the soundstage depth at the wall they instead throw the soundstage in front of the speakers. It’s not as “holographic” as a typical mi...
Best Speakers for a small Nearfield room, budget at most $10000 (used is also ok)
+1 to a sealed box like ATC, though you’ll still have a considerable amount of boundary reinforcement. Audiovector speakers work very well close to the rear wall, their recommended distance for the R1 is as little as 15cm even with the rear port. ...
Ok now I am frustrated with streaming
FWIW I have been using either hard drive media or streaming for the last few years and left my CDs in storage since moving over a year ago. I started with my own rips and FLACs and still prefer those to streaming when possible, but the majority of...
Best DAC for around $2,500 or less
Initial review of RMI ADI-2 DAC FS:https://taww.co/post/621563416104108032/first-take-review-rme-adi-2-dac-fsI have to agree with some of the comments here - this is a very underrated unit, at least if you are going to use it via balanced outputs....
Mid Range Streamer DAC recommendation help requested!
Lots of suggestions here but I can recommend the PS Audio DirectStream with Bridge as a great sounding option. It has been my reference for the last 2 years and even though the rest of my system has been upgraded significantly (eg Gryphon separate...
Best DAC for around $2,500 or less
While I have no idea if it’s the “best” under $2500, I too have been mighty impressed by the RME ADI-2. It is really smooth and detailed and comes pretty damn close to my PS Audio DirectStream - the PS Audio is more analog sounding for sure, with ...
How many NICE looking high end floor standing speaker are there at present
@jnovak I play the violin - studied in conservatory but decided I wanted to make enough money to buy hifi so switched to engineering. 😁 I have to say it’s a hard no on the Lawrence Audio Violins though... :)
How many NICE looking high end floor standing speaker are there at present
It’s interesting comparing what audiophiles think is acceptable or even “nice” looking to my wife’s opinion - pretty much everything mentioned in this thread gets a “HELL NO” from her. 😂 An exception is Audiovector - she said “this is ok” and I ev...
Tube Preamp with Solid State Amp?
Valvet is a good example of a manufacturer that subscribes to the tube pre/solid state amp school of thought. Can read some of my impressions here:https://taww.co/post/190866808752/valvet-a4-mkii-amp-soulshine-preampI also used the Valvet Soulshin...
Has anyone tried the Audience Forte F3 power cord?
@curiousjim sorry for never getting back to you - life got busy and hifi had to take a back seat for a while. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the Forte so much, including on the DirectStream DAC which I also have. I still have my review samples and r...
