Review: Silverline SR17 Supreme speakers
@seanheis1 was this the original Minuet or one of the more recent revision? I agree the originals were very fun and musical but a little veiled. I think the latest Supreme Plus is significantly more transparent. And the Minuet Grand is in another ...
Review: Silverline SR17 Supreme speakers
@pdreher yup, Alan Yun is still doing his thing. He's less active on the show circuit, and has expanded his line of affordable speakers. Still making the SR17 and Bolero in Supreme editions. I'm thinking of auditioning the latter - based on my exp...
I need your suggestion for a Preamp.
Hi @audiomaster - disclaimer, I don’t have sufficient experience with enough preamps to make a recommendation, just sharing a bit of my own experience. My own hunt for a reasonably priced pre (solid state only, thank you very much) led me to a Pass...
What is the best way to tame a slightly bright speaker?
I would strongly advise against any kind of messing around with crossover values. Any speaker worth its salt (certainly something as high-end as the TAD) has a network precisely tuned for attenuation, corner frequency and phase alignment in the co...
Dynaudio Special Forty vs. Contour 20
Hi @cortes - thanks for the kind words about the blog, always happy to hear if it's useful at all. I've fallen a bit behind on reviews the last few months (day job keeping me busy) but try to keep up with more regular updates on my Instagram/Faceb...
Clean Power without the drawbacks of Conditioning Filtering. Advice?
My esteemed colleague Marty DeWulf has a review of the Furutech e-TP80 power strip that I've been remiss publishing. He reviewed the hopped-up version ($2k), but the standard model starts around $800. He said it is superb and does no damage whatso...
Best bookshelf speakers
BTW I think it's good to go to stores and listen to a lot of offerings from a lot of mainstream manufacturers but I do not subscribe to the notion that big corporations = big R&D budgets = better speakers - quite the opposite in my experience....
Best bookshelf speakers
Caveat that I can't say what is "best" and I haven't heard many of the suggestions given here, but I can heartily recommend the Silverline Minuet Grand. It is fantastic, particularly for acoustic music (I'm a primarily classical listener, some jaz...
Curious what people think is the best "value" high end speaker (~5K to 15K)
At CAF today I heard the TAD ME1 speakers and they were incredible.@lancelock what were they using to drive them? I’ve heard the TADs a couple times but I don’t think they had the right gear, the sound was very dry.
Curious what people think is the best "value" high end speaker (~5K to 15K)
This is getting interesting. A speaker company [B&W] with a long tradition of building really esteemed products gets more than just one "not my kind" response on this thread. Again, no haters but just not impressed ones. I thought I was the on...
Curious what people think is the best "value" high end speaker (~5K to 15K)
Ah I missed how big the room is. Legacy speakers move a lot of air and are great values, but their character (big and a bit forward) isn’t for everyone. Since everyone is already beating up on them, much preferable to B&W. :)
Curious what people think is the best "value" high end speaker (~5K to 15K)
Silverline SR17 Supreme ($7500 new). It’s been a long time coming but review forthcoming.  Competitive with (and IMO often better than) most of what I heard at RMAF up to $20k or so.  If you like the 2-way monitor form factor, new Sonus Faber Elec...
In search for speakers of "natural" sound
Silverline SR17 Supreme (USD $7500). I'll have a review coming out imminently, but I believe this is one of the premiere speakers < $10k for reproducing acoustic music. Not the best at electronic/harder music, but great for e.g. classical and j...
BEST INTERCONNECT FOR $25 EACH?
@terry9 Canare Star Quad (L-4E6S) has never used Teflon. It's always been polyethylene dielectric AFAIK, certainly for the last 15+ years. Also I'm not sure why you need a fume hood for soldering teflon - if anything, teflon can withstand far highe...
Finally took the Bryston 4B Cubed plunge
Just got my new speaker in, Audiovector SR 1 Avantgarde Arreté. Ruthlessly revealing 2-way monitor. The Bryston sounds very, very good with it, better than my Ayre AX7e. The speaker is one of those small not-that-efficient (87.5dB) monitors that i...
