Wilson Alexia - speaker placement question
"I can only keep the speakers 20-23 inches from the front wall." $50K speakers and you can't put them in an optimized position.  You probably  will get them to sound good in any location, but a speaker especially like  that deserves to at least ...
Sad to say I need a new amp…
Keep it and find a competent, tube amp tech. Mesa probably doesn't support it any longer. If a shop can get the schematic, there may be hope. You may get lucky and the replacement of a costly transformer(maybe not) or whatever isn't too cost proh...
Will the used tube amp market suffer?
YES! Anyone with one of those unique tube amps that must use ONLY/EXCLUSIVELY Russian tubes should sell their amps for 1/5 of its MSRP. It’s a terrible time to own a tube amp. ARC Reference,VAC Statement and Atmasphere owners also, should get r...
MM or HO MC Cartridge Choice-Input Please
I had a Rega P5-the next step up from the P3. Save yourself the hassle stay with the  Rega philosophy. That means simple. Get a Rega cartridge. 3 screws, set tracking force-done If your MC curious, then look at the Ania. Exact for MM While any o...
Speaker positioning: why do audiophiles neglect this so much?
A lot of setups are in dual purpose rooms. Systems in living spaces just aren't going to have speakers pushed into the room as they should be to breathe. If you can't have your speakers 4-6 feet out,  3-4 from sidewalls, you're possibly missing ...
Does carpet deaden the sound too much?
Everyone's room/ears are different. Definitely a YMMV topic. Damping/diffusion as needed. Just like cooking-salt/pepper to taste.
Remember the Electric Light Orchestra
Geez...11 year old thread. I guess the title says it all
Toilet Paper to Vacuum Tubes
"Fast forward to March 2022 - we are hoarding vacuum tubes." Should read.....YOU are hoarding vacuum tubes.  Sigh. Another unnecessary thread topic
Made in japan - Deep Purple
It's a common phenomena especially with some R&R recordings. If one were to imagine a typical live band setup, the drummer is center in the band lineup onstage. A right handed drummer will go thru his kit left to right-right being his floor ...
How to choose an upgraded tonearm.
skyscraper- Since your 2 threads are relatable, it's been an interesting read since there is wisdom/advice from all levels to sort from. After giving both a thorough read, it reinforces my belief-one needs to accept what blend of technical fact ...
Prima Luna and Focal Aria 926
Years ago I used the a PL Prologue 2 (Evo 100 predecessor)with 89db speakers.  Other than concert level volumes it was fine.  Focal spec is 91-92.  Since manufacturer specs always are higher than real world, that means my speakers were likely 87 ...
hana ML vs Rega Ania pro on Rega P8
Using non Rega carts defeats the Rega philosophy. Using shims for a non Rega cart is hit or miss. Mount the cart and determine if you like the sound in its non optimized state. It may actually be pleasing to you since VTA is ultimately subjective...
VPI Fatboys versus others in its' tonearm weight class.
skyscraper, Agon is a great place to gain knowledge. Unfortunately, it does nothing to temper audio nervosa and wallet atrophy. Your upgrade will more than a "settling" experience.
VPI Fatboys versus others in its' tonearm weight class.
skyscraper, Based on the recent threads/posts, you may be under the spell of uncurbable audio neurosis. The Kleos will be a substantial sonic upgrade on the stock arm. Since you won't have another identical table next to it to compare with a "be...
Will you hear the most beautiful music...
"This is what you want." twoleftears- YES,  I believer this is the stuff I am referring to! Of course you're not supposed to eat excessive amounts at, but this fat isn't nearly as lethal as our US meat. The locals have consumed it for generatio...
