Is that record dead yet?
For 30 dollars or so you can get a steamer which is better than a RCM
VPI Scoutmaster platter/bearing install
Do you have the 9 inch VPI arm that normally comes with the turntable? If so, there are 2 allen screws at the base of the arm...one in front and one in back. You will also notice a Knurled thumb screw that encircles the entire tonearm pillar. When...
Is that record dead yet?
Dont worry about looks. When choosing a wife you want someone that will please on many levels...looks evaporate. As long as the record plays through and pleases you it should be a match
rhea better with high or low output MC?
I had a Benz Ebony H and it is one helluva cartridge... Seriously recommended.
VPI Scoutmaster platter/bearing install
VPI has a SuperGrease which should be used. It comes in what looks like a white hypodermic needle..if you didnt get it in your setup, ask VPI for some.
Best Cartridges for the Money You've Experienced
All cartridges have their personalities..I've heard lots of them. The top Benz's are more like Koetsu's because of that lucious midrange...as an added bonus, they track well, have good lows and highs, and great dynmics. The Koetus and the Benz's a...

Do NOT tap it in...let it slide down by itself. Mine takes some time, but it will slide.
Do Kimber KCAG's sound bright????
In a word...yes Kimber silver does sound brighter than it should. I didn't like it in my system. Cables should add as little as possible and should not be used as tone controls.
Vinyl Virgin seeks additional advice
I agree with 2002ss335. I don't know why everyone on these discussions are fixated with Anti- Skate. I makes very little difference if any at all.
educate me
The better the cartridge, the better the overall sound. There is nothing in a stereo system that is an ultimate limiting factor. Every piece in the chain contributes. Even if you have Bose speakers, you will hear better sound from a better cartrid...
what is this noise caused from possibly
When I got my turntable, my dealer said that his turntable specialist was the best in the east. He charged me 300 dollars, and for that I expected perfection. Every parameter was "about" right, but with analogue, its got to be perfect, or it isn't...
Vandersteen 5A biwire shotgun absolutely required?
Do it right for heavens sake. Presumably, your amps are in between the 2 speakers so that you have short speaker cables and long interconnect. That is what Vandersteen recommends and that is what works best. Bi-wire must have 4 seperate wires to e...
Vandersteen 5a vs. B&W 802D vs. Maggie 3.6 vs.?
I dumped my 802D's and got the 5A's. The Vandys are much more musical, have greater air, depth, clarity, etc.etc. There is no comparison. The 802's were stodgy in comparison. You should have all the ancillaries in place, or any speaker will not wo...
What's the limit for cart upgrade/VPI Scout?
My experience is that the cartridge makes the most significant upgrade in sound. I had a Grado Sonata which was brown in color with fuzzy sound, had respectable width, but not much depth. When I changed to a Benz it was a revelation.
what is this noise caused from possibly
No its not the same as VTA. Overhanng adjustment proceeds as follows: A good idea is to put some tape on the turntable platter so that it will not move when tinkering with this. With your arm you should have received a gizmo that looks like a grap...
