Anyone Going to the Axpona Show in March in Jackso
Has anyone been able to determine the show hours for each day; I don't see them listed at the show site.
Hovland HP-100 phono vs Audio Research REF Phono 2
The biggest issue with the Hovland is noise; it's not the most quiet phono/pre you've ever heard. Use it with Khorns and that makes things worse... However, it sounds pretty darn good; just not quite as good overall as an Audio Research Ref Phono ...

I will give the Amperex Bugle Boys a try in the Hovland. I like warm and rich.
Hovland HP-100 phono vs Audio Research REF Phono 2
I just paid Jeff a visit in New York in early December; I was looking at the Raven AC and Raven One TT; I did not pay much attention to the Tron phono (wish that I had though); any idea how much the Tron cost?

Oh, yes; comparing the Ref Phono to the built-in phono in the Hovland.

I am running the Ref Phono Two into the Hovland line stage (my Hovland has had the gain cut down to 6db on the line stage. I used the 'tape monitor' input on the Hovland because it is direct and by passes the selector switch on the Hovland. The re...

If you have other top performers that I should put on my audition short list, please tell me what they are!
Hovland HP-100 phono vs Audio Research REF Phono 2
The Ref Phono Two goes back to the dealer in the morning and I will miss it big time! It's a very impressive piece of gear in my view. I've owned the Hovland HP-100 for almost six years and it is a fine piece of gear too, but I don't think that it...

I agree; 1'6's are a great speaker at a great price and I may just buy them. However, as some have mentioned above I will have to find a good muscle-amp to get the best out of them.

Have moved on to Plan B... Pulled out my 20 year-old NAD 2200 PE solid state stereo amp (still use it for one of my secondary systems upstairs). This thing is rated at 100 watts continuous but can swing 600 watts or so for brief peaks; so far, so ...

I didn't really expect the same amount of bass that I get from the KHorns; I think that I could live with the 1.6's bass as long as I had a beefy amp.I started with the 1.6's 4'9" from the center of the panel to the sidewalls and 5'6" from the fro...

Okay, been listening to the 1'6's since last evening; overall I like them quite a bit. However, it is very apparent that my 125 watt VTL mono-blocks are not quite up to the task of driving them to fill my larger room (17.5 x 26 x 9)... They can ha...
