Bridge of Sighs
"Whatever Happened To The Audiophile?"
Yeah well, to each his/her own. Media will always try to create a "broadbrush wash" of a view about a particular subject with occasional detail glimpses to avoid the inevitable yawn. I read this and was slightly amused, which is better than that I...
Wilson Audio Question compaired to Vandersteen
Vandersteen 5a speakers are just boring lumps? Why, because they are among the rare and few designs that are time and phase coherent, with a completely flat bass response down to 20 Hz?Wilson has snob appeal that Vandersteen doesn't. Why, because ...
Cartridge for VPI Classic?
I started with a Benz Glider on a JMW 10.5 and, while I did enjoy this cartridge in that context, sometimes found it not to track well on highly modulated tracks. Since then I have become a fan of Lyra cartridges and the Helikon currently installe...
Replacing Thiel 2.2's, Need Monitor Suggestions
I guarantee that in a year or two you will miss the time and phase coherence of Thiels and will seek another pair to replace the B&Ws. I speak from personal experience.
How many tube watts for Vandersteen 2's?
I had Vandersteen 2C Sigs powered by a 45wpc CJ CAV 50 and this was plenty for them.
At what volume do you typically listen?
Typically between 75db and 85db; that sounds about right for me too.
Vinyl cleanliness
Several of my older Deutsche Grammophone records that I bought in the 70s are defect free and still very quiet after all these years. Only one or two in my rock collection could I say are defect free.

Thiel CS3.7 and CS2.4 comparisons?
Attention ALL Thiel owners.Regardless of your favorite Thiel model (I have CS6s and 2.4s) you MUST, I repeat MUST, give them ample time to break in, if you don't then you will miss out on what they can do when they finally do (extended and clear b...
CJ Premier 11 driving Thiel 2.4?
Yes absolutely! I am powering my 2.4s with a CAV50 into a much larger space with high ceilings. Enjoy!
Krell FPB 600 or 400cx?
Hey Sound, send us a picture of that planter. Yeah, I thought so.
NIN Pretty Hate Machine remaster
Bass is fuller and there seems to be more separation between the parts. Perhaps a bit more dynamic too with less compression. "Something I Can Never Have" now gives me ten times the shivers of the original.
Best Rock Drummers
Hey, can any of these guys actually swing? That's the real test.Keith Moon for all his bombastic playing, always swung, no matter what. Ringo and Charlie Watts too. Those are the original big three; everyone else derived from them after the fact a...
How a turntable is like a gym membership
Agree and even better if your preamp doesn't have a remote so that you have to get up to adjust the volume, change sources etc!
