Improved my VPI Super Scoutmaster w/Rim drive
This sounds interesting. Any way you could post pictures of this assembly. I currently am running the same table but with the Benz LP. So the rubber feet are now only stabalizers? My only concern is that the motor housing is so heavy it might real...
phono pre amp giant killer?
Andyth, I will second the rec for the GCPH. I've used it for three years and it will do whatever you need it to quite well. Mine has had the Cullen mods and they really improve the performance. Ridiculous bargain IMHO. Currently, I'm considering s...
Warped Records
I will try the jars. I have a great sounding Sterling RL pressing of His Band and Street Choir that would be perfect without the edge warping.
AudioEngine 2 vs AudioEngine5?
I use the AE5s in a garage I-Pod based system and I think they work great in that application. Much better than the similarly priced Apple Hi-Fi but still not good enough for critical listening. They seem like they may be a little big for a desk t...
Warped Records
Mantooth, This is an intriguing idea. How long would you say it takes the LP to cool completely? Why glass jars? Would books work just as well or better?
Raven Black Night
Yes, the full Black Night is pricey. I wonder though if even the battery powered-rechargable motor controller might be an option on the lower priced units. I'm sure TW has no interest in becoming the German equivalent of VPI but if some of these n...
Steam cleaning records 2
Thanks Zen,I have a feeling you're right. Probably not worth the chance, especially when I have two more Perfection steamers sitting unopened.
Steam cleaning records 2
Still not afraid of the lead in the Perfection's power cord. If you hang those little Christmas lights you've got the same thing. Just don't chew on the cord and wash your hands after using(which I would hope anyone would do after handling dirty r...
Raven Black Night
How soon? I'll be there in May but Jeff told me it wouldn't be there by then. It's out of my budget anyway but there was some indication that some features of the Black Night may eventually be available for the AC(custom feet, VTA adjustable armbo...
Well recorded records ... what are your picks?
T.Rex-Electric Warrior and Traffic-Low Spark of High Heeled Boys are two recent surprising finds for me. His Band and Street Choir and The Kinks-Misfits are also standouts. I also really enjoy many of Harry Nilsson's albums. Nilsson Schmilson on t...
ss amp synergy w/wilsons
Jfrech, Did you buy the KX-R too or just the MX-Rs? I'm currently using the MX-Rs with a VK 51se(also started as VK 50se). This combination seems to work pretty well but I haven't had the chance to try the KX-R in my room yet. Did you find the KX-...
What is the Phono stage you have finished with?
Dgad, Does the TW Phono deliver in the lower frequencies as well? I'm still strongly considering an AC3 as a table upgrade but phono stages continue to confound me. Did you compare the TW phono with the Tron 7(another Catalano recommendation)? Do ...
Periphery Ring
One of my favorite of the VPI features. Works better on dish warps than the undulating wavey stuff. I've also found the occasional record that it just doesn't fit that well. These, of course, sound better without the clamp.
Is there a better table than S. Scoutmaster Ref ?
The rim drive's major advantage is that it gets you away from the nitrile belts VPI has been using and that is a significant improvement. Others have converted their VPIs to string or tape drive and acheive a similar advantage. Koegz is right, yo...
Is there a better table than S. Scoutmaster Ref ?
I have the SSM ref with rim drive and I really enjoy it but I am growing tired of being limitted to only one arm option. I am therefore planning to buy a multiarm capable table(likely Galibier). The SSM performs quite well. The build quality is go...
