Need a MC Cartridge recomendation... I love the Shelter 90x(.6mv output I believe). Find a used one(~$1000). If the stylus is worn, the Soundsmith retip with a contact line stylus is fabulous.(just takes about 6 months to get it done).

Vandersteen 5Aa Carbon--any 5a owner's opinions? From what I can find on the 5A carbon, the only difference is the midrange driver upgrade to the carbon/balsa midrange. $8600 seems like a lot for that. I had thought that all drivers would be changed to the new ones for that price. I guess at tha...
New favorite VINYL Album? Wretches and Jabberers soundtrack is very well done. Not sure the genre would appeal to everyone here but it's a gem IMO. Apparently only 500 made though so unless they make more supply will be short.
Classic records reissue - very disappointing We still have Bernie Grundman, Steve Hoffman and Chris Bellman. I have enjoyed many of their reissues. There are still really great sounding new records(not too many on Classic). Nora Jones, David Crosby, CSN, Lennon, and some of the Zeps are amon...
LP Deadwax marking guide/database On audio asylum there is a thread called something like "hot stamper secrets revealed". It lists markings in the deadwax that often correlate with good sound. I find it to hold pretty true. Big ones are RL(Robert Ludwig), LH(Lee Hulko), GK(Gilbert...
What Mobile Fidelity lp or cd is your fav ? Just playing 1-005 right now which is Crime of the Century. I don't have the UHQR but this version is well worth whatever price you pay.
Best sounding MFSL LP Agree with audiofeil. Crime of the Century is the best one I have. Sea Change is good but not quite up to the original and Waiting for Columbus is also quite good.
What are the $5000 options Cal, I did a similar tour listening to top tables a couple years ago and auditioned several great tables in the 20,000 to 30,000 range and liked them all a lot but was blown away at how good a vintage Technics mkll sounded in a custom plinth at a ...
If you could only keep 5 Lp vinyl which ones *Grateful Dead---Working Man's Dead*Ry Cooder---Paradise and Lunch*Nitty Gritty Dirt Band---Dirt, Silver and Gold(3 LPs-not fair)*Talking Heads---Little Creatures*Rush---Moving Pictures Also agree with Thick As a Brick provided it's the original R...
How to use magic eraser to clean stylus? I prefer to cut it in about 1 inch thin strips and use them gently as a stylus brush back to front and along the sides of the stylus. It needs to be thin enough to flex when it contacts the stylus and not snag it. I then lightly brush with a camel...
Rush fans on the board ?? Irrespective of it's fine content, I would have to say that a good copy of Moving Pictures with RL Masterdisc stamped in the dead wax will be one of the best sonically of all their albums.
Technics: PLINTHS: Dobbins, Porter, or Thompson? I have a Porter plinth mk2 combination( the wenge plinthed version that led to the sale of Albert's Walker). I've never heard the others but I can tell you it sounds fantastic. After a while using it I sold my VPI SSM and since have bought two mk3...
My humble opinion..... I will have to look for that one. Don't be intimidated to express an opinion because others are "more experienced". This is all subjective and there really are no "experts". If you like something and think it's great it is, to you, and that's all ...
Great lost lps...the 80s....synth pop and others.. From left field, Men Without Hats-Rythm of Youth. Most would likely consider this crap and I guess it has a digital character but the sound is dynamic and fun. |
