Cartridge Recommendations
The SUT idea is a valid one. It's a pitty the Ortofon M-20 fl super is no longer available on eBay NOS. For $179 this cartridge holds it's own against offerings costing thousands more(I have many LOMCs). If you see one for sale, don't hesitate. It...
Technics SP-10 mkII speed adjustment question
No doubt the CU-180 will be a big step up from the stock mat. I think you'd notice similar improvement with the SAEC SS-300 and the Boston Mat ll. These mats you may also want to try in the future. This is one tweak that is quick and easy to perfo...
Early digital recordings on vinyl vs. CD?
Some of my best sounding LPs are from digital masters as well so I totally agree with Doug. Vinyl playback just does the source more justice than digital playback.
Has anybody tried the Reed 3P?
Nandric, That sounds like a great plan. If the on the fly is only fine tuning I would guess the other concerns are almost a nonissue. I'll have to admit I've never been one to agonize over azimuth. I usually get it close and just go with it. This ...
Has anybody tried the Reed 3P?
I have a 12" 3P on order. From what I understand the only thing affected by azimuth adjustment on this arm, albeit slightly, is VTA. Now I can tell you in my experience adjusting VTA is no big deal. I'll be happy to post my impressions when I have...
MoFi Release Meets Expectations FINALLY
I agree the original Wake has disappointing sound quality considering how good American Beauty and Working Man's Dead sound. Maybe in this case the MoFi tampering offers an improvement which would be good news. I do have a number of MoFis that I t...
Technics SP-10 mkII speed adjustment question
Sebastian, No, I never changed anything about the mkll to use a CU-180. As far as adjusting speed on the mkll, I don't even know if it's possible. I'm not that technically knowledgable but there's no pitch control built in and the speed is quartz ...
Who listens only to vinyl?
I grew up on vinyl, always way better than cassette IMO. I couldn't even afford to get into CD until about 1992 or so. I bought into the perfect sound forever thing and lived happily with it until 2004 or so. Once I went back to the trouble of vin...
Power cord for Technics SP-10MkII
Maril555, The cover in my system picture was made by a guy named Norm at Stereo Squares. Supply him with your dimensions and the points for cutouts at the back. I have not tried a Dynavector on the 312s. I love the SME arm but the big problem of c...
Need your recommendations for amazing recordings
Check out any of the Stockfisch vinyls. All sound great IMO. Sara K is my personal favorite on that label but they have some classical and jazz too. I'm almost sure you'd like any of them you tried.
Power cord for Technics SP-10MkII
I've always been of the opinion that this is one of the last places to spend money on a fancy power cord. As long as juice is flowing and the power supply is keeping accurate speed what's the difference? Having said that, I must admit I've never t...
Good speakers under 10K.
Yep, get a nice second hand pair of Vandersteen 5As. The price and sound match what you're looking for almost exactly. OK, exactly.

Why not Anodyne?

Original US pressings can sound great but it's very hard to find one in descent shape. The 7E is the original, not 6E as might make sense. If I see a German pressing I'll get it. I still don't have what I consider a good pressing of this title.
Technics SP-10 mkII speed adjustment question
Lewm, The EPA 500 is now on the Artisan Fidelity plinth done by Chris Thornton. The main advantage of this arm system is it's flexibility. I got it to try multiple vintage/affordable cartridges. Currently I have five combinations set up that can b...
