coincident vs. audio physic
I'd add the Silverline Sonatinas to your list--very open, transparent, and tube friendly. You might also try the Soliloquy 6.2. Haven't heard the Partial Eclipse or Tempo III but have been very impressed with other models in the Coincident and AP ...
Re thinking my system; where to start?
Sounds like you might want to look at the Placette passive preamp. It's basically a volume control unit with one input--doesn't get much simpler or more transparent than this. FTAudio also seems good if you don't need a remote.I'd also recommend e...
A good integrated amp for Silverline Sonatina II
I'd call Silverline and ask them for recommendations. Who would know better than the speaker's designer? Best of luck.Tim
Rogue Tempest or Jolida JD1000A Integrateds?
You should check the impedance characteristics of the Cliffhangers as well to find out at what level and where in the frequency spectrum they bottom out, as this could be an even bigger issue than sensitivity. I've heard nothing but good things fr...
What would you use ?
Make sure you choose your amp first, then figure out which cables work best with the new amp/speaker combo. That said, both Analysis Plus and Cardas are reputed to be a little "warmer" than others, so these might be worth exploring but may stretch...
Am I Too Cheep?
If you're intent on listening in surround mode I wouldn't bother getting serious about your front end.If, however, you are interested in getting more serious about 2-channel the 985 may be a serious problem, not because it is that bad of a preamp ...
Please help me tame the bass beast
I agree you've probably got too much speaker for the room with your current setup since you can't alleviate the problem with placement(I'm assuming you've tried pulling the speakers out at least 5 feet into the room). If it were me, my first step w...
What is the opposite of near field listening?
Distant city speaking. Sorry.Tim
Khorus owners...which speaker cables?
Ironically I know someone who also runs Khoruses with Evo monoblocks and was using AP cable. He upgraded to Acoustic Zen interconnects and liked them so much he went to shotgun bi-wire Satori cables and raves about them, so I guess he thought it w...
Which multichannel SACD player?
Oops, just read Flex's comments on another thread and it looks like Pioneer has addressed the SACD to PCM issue. I'm still skeptical about the first "Universal" players though(same issues as above) and would definitely wait a bit on those.Tim
Which multichannel SACD player?
No doubt the new 777 will be a great piece, but it goes for around $3000(probably a little less from someone like Oade Bros.). For me that's too much to pay for such a new technology that does not even have a digital connection yet. I would much r...
DVD-A and SACD player combo
I agree with Aroc. One word of caution that I didn't see mentioned above--the Pioneer universal player converts SACD to PCM, which probably seriously compromises the quality of the SACD playback. The point is that this is still new technology and ...
How do you determine how much to spend on speakers
I think both sml and jeff make good points. My opinion is at this price level you get a much bigger bang for your buck with speakers than with other components--IN GENERAL. For example, you're going to hear a much bigger difference going from a $1...
Sonus Faber Grand Pianos Or Audio Physic Virgos
You've got lots of choices in the $3-6k price range for speakers. The Virgos(haven't heard new version yet) and GPs are certainly great speakers, but others in that range would probably do better on the low end might be the Gershmann Avant Garde R...
too much power now-dump active for passive pre?
I wouldn't be inclined to worry about it either, but maybe one other area to look at is your source. If the output voltage is high it could also have an affect on the volume level and may be adjustable depending on your unit. Just another thought.Tim
