Which hdtv would you recommend and why?
I bought a Panasonic plasma around 6 months ago.....outstanding picture quality IMHO (and so far no problems at all).To be honest though.......any of the top brands are probably great.Dave
What did you own in the 60's?
Fisher component system for the last part of the 60's.....and a big console for the early 60's........MOTOWN BABY!....Woodward Avenue!Dave
Why not horns?
I'm glad I gave up my audiophile card long ago, because thats when music became fun again. My Apogee dipole panel speakers are fun to listen to, and so are my horns (Klipsch). My Bose 901's out in the garage are also fun....and so are my big old ug...
Maggies
Get rid of them, and buy some box speakers that "punch" the bass like you like.....dipoles don't do that. (been there, still doing that).Dave
Why not horns?
I think the old Klipsch are a great starting point...easy to upgrade, easy to find cheap, easy to sell, and not bad sound at all.I started with Kg4's ($165)....bought upgraded Forte next (($550), and now I'm thinking bigger Klipsch...or maybe Alte...
Why not horns?
I do use Horns (Klipsch).....I like them a lot. I think the midrange of my Apogee speakers beats the Klipsch by a fair amount though.Of course my Klipsch aren't the best horns, but my Apogees aren't the best Apogee either?Dave
Kilpsch KG4s or JBL L40s?
I have some Kg4's....I like mine a lot. I also have some Klipsch Forte, and I like them even better. In truth, like many long term audiophiles, I have to many speakers...so sadly, I don't listen to some of them as much as I should.I haven't listene...
Why are bass drivers elevated in floor standers?
Floor..........the only thing under the designers control. He has no way of knowing where any other (wall?) will be located in relation to the driver.Dave
Help buying a television
After looking at my sisters Samsung LCD, and my mothers panasonic plasma.....I went with a panasonic plasma. They both looked very nice compared to my old RPTV, but I thought the plasma had the edge in picture quality for tv viewing, and DVD viewin...

I have a Trends and it sounds fine. Have you tried something like Foobar music player with it's ASIO plugin installed? If not, give it a try. That is what I was using when I last used USB<>S/PDIF conversion, and Windows XP....(pretty good sou...
Import/rip audio cd's thru Winamp?
Dbpoweramp for me, but EAC is free and great also. I think dbpoweramp is faster than EAC though for the same results. If your cd's are in poor shape, expect both to be very slow (your fault).Dave
New to tubes
I just sold my other tube preamp, but the difference between volume control settings on that preamp (two O'clock for loud)...and the preamp I still use is quite large (ten O'clock for loud)....same amps for both preamps.Pretty common.Dave
Rogue vs ARC
My Rogue amps aren't for sale, and I've owned them a few years now. The ARC gear could be better?...I don't know... (but when I'm happy with a components sound, I don't care.)As far as sound:I've found the the Rogue amps have the "best quality" of...
