multichannel amps with individual level controls? I think the Earthquake Cinénova Grande amps do...lots of power.Dave
Best Amp to drive my Apogee Stages? ClavilThe TRL GT-400 are 400 watts each?....I'm 100% sure they can drive the little Stage with ease.(My Onkyo M-504's don't even get past "warm" driving the Stage)Dave
Has anyone heard the new PS Audio Perfect Wave? I have a friend that has them...and he says it's fantastic sounding in his system. He has an outstanding stereo system, but he lives in another state so I haven't heard it myself.I've read a few posts somewhere on the web, by people that heard the...
Best Amp to drive my Apogee Stages? Don_sI've had plenty of clean power on mine (Krell Ksa-250, 4.5 kva transformer)....they did sound great.but they sound great with my tube amps also :-)I guess the baby Krell just couldn't cut the mustard?....probably overheated from being overdri...
Best Amp to drive my Apogee Stages? I don't find my Stage particularly hard to drive...100 watts of solid state or tube amps (with a good power supply) is up to the task in my room. I guess if you like to play music at loud levels (90-100 db) you should play it safe and get 200 watt...
Old vs New Dacs - Best Bang for buck??? The old Counterpoint DAC-10A with the upgraded 20bit ultra-analog card are very good sounding (I had one). They do come up for sale in your price range, but don't usually last long on the market.I can't think of a $500 DAC I would rather have?Dave
DAC question You can find a Monarchy M-24 tube DAC for around $700-$800. It even has a pretty nice sounding tube preamp section you can use if you want. It's a very good DAC for the money IMO.I use Amperex tubes in mine...but have also used the cheap to buy EH...

Speakers for $600. I agree with Maddoggy...Klipsch kg4's are outstanding for what you can buy them for (I paid $160 for mine). If you don't mind larger....Klipsch Forte go for around $500 bucks (another outstanding for the money speaker).Your amp will probably sound...
To audyssey or not to audyssey, that is the ...? After running Audyssey in my room (8 MIC locations, and using a MIC stand...(plus reading tons of info about it at the AVS forum so that I could set it up correctly)....no contest between with, and without Audyssey.Audyssey took my 7.2 channel hom...
Eton 8.1's or Apogee Slant 6 Maybe you would like Klipsch kg4's in that small room?...I have a pair and I like them a lot. (you can find them for 2-$300).I had Apogee Centaur Minors in the past, and I still own Apogee Duetta Signatures, and Apogee Stage (MiniGrands).I should ...
right/left orientation Facing the speakers of course. This matches the connections on the rear of the components, and any balance control that may be on the preamp.Dave
most articulate speaker Stats and ribbons....then horns. I don't agree with Newbee....monopole cones interact with the room much more than dipole stat/planer type speakers do. (this is the reason monopole cone subwoofer setup gives many people fits).Dave
Magnepan Owners - Need Your Thoughts Please The CARDAS setup method works in some rooms, and not in others. It does work in my room...although I had already placed my dipoles before hearing about the CARDAS setup....or, in other words, I set them up by ear.Regardless, my ear and the CARDAS ... |
