What planer speaker to start with? Budget 2k
I don't think your amp will work well with Maggies...I could be wrong though?Dave
good music/poor recording, bad music excellent
Listening to Enya (watermark) right now....good music, good recording! With millions and millions of recordings in the world, why would anyone have to listen to a bad one?Dave
High speed Internet connection question
Wireless would not be faster than cable, or as dependable. Hi-speed cable is as good as your provider....in my area, it's Comcast Michigan....very fast (and just got faster!), and very stable.Dave
2-way speaker with best bass
Why not add a couple of small, but very good subwoofers behind the speakers you have now? This give you a three way design, without the internal crossover complexity your trying to stay away from....and, including bass flexibility gains overall.30...
tube amp for Apogee Tweeter mid-range
ScottBiamping...or at least passive biamping, didn't do anything for me. I came to the conclusion, that one single better quality amp, sounds better than two lessor quality amps. The ribbon doesn't really need gobs of power...and it shares midrang...
tube amp for Apogee Tweeter mid-range
I use all tubes with my Apogees....Amps, preamp, and DAC. I have Duetta Signatures, and MiniGrands...and I switch between them every few months.I had been using Solid State (Krell) for a number of years, but switched to Rogue Audio tube mono's aro...
Help me out... can't figure this out
I don't know?...pretty strange. Maybe the gain adjustments in the prepro are set to high (all the way up)...and it's to high for the new amp, and it's being overloaded?Just a wild guess?....you didn't say what kind of noise it was?....maybe you ne...
IYO, Best speaker for rock music under $1k
Agree with the guys above...the older VMPS tower speakers are darn good rock speakers also. There is a pair for sale here right now ($800)...but he won't ship.Dave
Poll - Active vs. Passive preamp
Some systems require gain, some don't. Below unity gain, active and passive, are both an attenuator?Other features aside, and if you only require attenuation of the signal....you have nothing to "gain" by spending a lot more money for an active pr...
One sub, a two channel system ,one HT reciever ??
Running the mains full range as Rel suggests, either works, or doesn't work...it has a lot to do with whats going on with the main speakers. The Kef's may work great...many smaller ported speakers may not, again....it depends. No amount of gibberis...
One sub, a two channel system ,one HT reciever ??
If your receiver folds the LFE channel into the mains when set to (large mains-no sub)....you can simply add something like the Paradigm X-30 crossover (around $100 used)into the system. (or any other good crossover on the market). It would connect...
New Adcom GFA-555 se - Special Edition
I haven't owned any Adcom products, but I was very, very interested in a pair of Mirage M-3 speakers years ago.I went to the dealer and listened to the speakers several times (he was driving them with a pair of Adcom 565 mono's).The amps must have...
Should I add a separate amp?
Well, the Def Tech subs have their own amps, and the JL sub has it's own amp. I'd say the Denon has plenty of power for whats left.IMO....your good to go.Dave
Passive subwoofer...huh???
The Reckhorn amp/crossover is a good suggestion, here is more info on it.http://www.diyhifisupply.com/?q=catalog/92/reckhorn_amplifiersDave
To those who support idea a room isn't large enuff
I've never had a problem getting deep bass in small, or large rooms...controlling it is another matter. (Nothing enough bass traps can't help with though.) I've used my VMPS Supertowers in small rooms...they sounded great IMO.As a Stage ownerAnd s...
