Best rock song of all times
Sweet Child O'Mine has a great riff... All above suggestions are excellent candidates too - check this out url for a "researched" list....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_in_English_labeled_the_best_ever
Importance of warm up. I hope this helps someone
Speakers will change response as heat builds up in the voice coils --- you get thermal compression after some minutes of play as the coils inside the drivers warm up. As you play louder the compression will get worse...anywhere from 0.5 to 3DB or ...
Bob Dylan's Modern Times, a new Masterpiece?
Hdm and Ben,I agree with your criticisms, no doubt my guess went way too far. A better wording might be "An verbal attack on the way modern music sounds and at the same time to take control of the sound production suggests a certain dissatisfactio...
Bob Dylan's Modern Times, a new Masterpiece?
Dylan deliberately took control of the sonic production of Modern Times as he rebels against modern CD and digital - he may be a great artist but IMHO his sound engineering skills are not up to scratch of other pros. I guess his criticisms of CD a...
definition of balanced mode vs. single ended
Balanced means both signals float with respect to ground. Single ended means that the negative side of the signal is circuit ground. Balanced usually has better noise rejection and therefore less noise....although the difference in home audio is s...
Bob Dylan's Modern Times, a new Masterpiece?
Audiofeil,I agree with your description. The instruments have a far away kind of sound and the vocals are edgy. Whatever is the cause, I find it has the monotonous kind of sound of much of today's pop music, which lack dynamic range due to compres...

Have you considered buying Mac Mini and a cheap/second hand keyboard, monitor and mouse? (many people throw away old keyboards and monitors). I use a dedicated Mac Mini to run my four CD mega changers....overkill maybe but it works and I can surf ...
Your favorite prog rock music? ?
I have to say it again....great thread!
Your favorite prog rock music? ?
No one mentioned Santana yet...or Roxy music.. or 10cc ....but I'd include them in prog rock IMHO...although may be I am stretching the boundaries. For me Art rock is part of prog rock. I would not count the Cars as prog rock.....but then again......
Need help with room
A narrow spike at 630 Hz may be room related....try moving the SPL meter by 1 foot and see if the spike disappears. If it does then you may want to try acoustic treatments as an EQ will not solve that problem except at that exact listening positio...
Your favorite prog rock music? ?
Queen - pomp and operatic rock.Rush 2112 was a classic toogood thread!
Need help with room
Are you using single frequency tones or warbled test tones? Single frequency tones can give some deep spikes/nulls which I would tend to ignore if they are very sharp....30 db swing from peak to trough in your size room is not surprising. Check ou...

Get the small Airport Express from apple and you will be up and running in no time....send music wirelessly from your Mac pro to your existing gear.It can't get any simpler then that. Plug it in (connect the audio to your amp with a 1/8 inch stere...
Acoustic TReatments - What, How much, & Where?
I second Newbee's last comments - furniture, plants, bookshelves, absoption behind the listening position, diffusers on side walls and moving speakers far away from rear wall and keeping listening position around 40% from the wall behind your list...
room design help
I second Andy's comments....make sure the room dimensions are not a multiple of the ceiling height. Wooden frame is good as it will leak the bass out ...producing less reverberation or room modes. If you are going to such trouble you may also cons...
