Is Digital actually better than Analog?
Pauly,I never said that all new approaches are better than the old. In fact, I never said which approach was better. I certainly never said film is worse than digital camera. Actually, I was just trying to say that a new approach versus an old app...
Two Subs Vs. One
I agree with Eldartford when at very close range and at higher SPL levels. I find I become aware of the general direction of a sub when I am within about four feet of it in 25 foot room (very close range and the lower the cut off the closer I need...
Is Digital actually better than Analog?
In general, the proposition that "digital is better than analog" or viceversa remains undecidable. Exactly, both are great but unfortunately one still has a future ahead of it whilst the other has its best days behind it. No doubt the analog part...
Audio Icon/Idol - Who would you like to meet?
How can you guys forget Roger Nichols that engineered Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly"... I think Bob Ludwig, in my original list, did the mastering on Nightfly...I just couldn't list everyone, I guess.George Martin is a good suggestion....did much ...
Is Digital actually better than Analog?
Such an emotive subject. An old versus a new approach. I catch myself sometimes saying to the kids, "Well, in my day, things were much better..." but things do move on, and the kids just roll their eyes...VHS versus DVD. Carburetors versus electro...

Questions Re: Time & Phase Alignment
Ears are roughly 6 inches apart....a lot of phase correction is done when the brain combines both signals....so don't get too hung up on this issue alone, especially above 2Khz where our ears will quite likely get out of phase sound at certain spe...
Donald Fagen's Nightfly - Love it or Hate it?
Are we listening to the same LP? The Borg? Wow. I accept Nightfly is a milestone recording along with DSOTM, Roxy Music Avalon and other great recordings out there. Musically it is great too...great piano, great vocals and great melodies. My beef...
Donald Fagen's Nightfly - Love it or Hate it?
How can something be excessively perfect? Maybe it's like over abundant or past history.I suspect the human element is lost or reduced when something becomes so perfect that every drum beat is identical. Sometimes it is the little imperfections o...
An ignorant question about impedance
Linearity is best preserved with low output impedance and high input impedance over the audible frequency range. The impact of interconnects, speaker cables and speaker impedance variation with frequency should all be minimized in this case. 10 to...
Mid sized room -Full range vs Monitor
The fact that your rear wall ( behind the listening position ) is not concrete is a fantastic bonus....concrete is very reflective and will not leak out energy and consequently you may get overly long reverb times. The best place to have a "leaky"...
Paradigm Ref Studio 80's - Minimum Tube Power?
I second Duke....no more to add or say.
Behringer DEQ2496: Ease of Use
there's no clipping it's pretty impossible to hear this piece doing something wrong when it's being used entirely in the digital domain. Not sure - it depends what you mean by wrong....I agree in the sense of "distortion", however an EQ introduce...
Mastering for CD vs. Vinyl
Thanks for the heads up....I will steer clear of this release.
Genelec Speakers opinions
Efner, I've been a recording engineer for 37 years and have used Genelecs sometimes. Which model are you referring too that were so bad? I thought they have improved a lot recently...perhaps because they were losing market share to other monitors....
