Can speaker cables be too thick?
I should perhaps add that it is possible to construct audio equipment in such a way that small cable differences can be magnified. The principle of audio reproduction is that the voltage coming out of the amplifier represents the amplified original...
Can speaker cables be too thick?
You do have an axe to grind in that you seem interested in convincing yourself and others that cables all sound virtually the same- and that's perfectly ok- but you're wrong:) No problem Dave, I respect that you and many others disagree on the ma...
Different lengths of interconnects ??????
It is very interesting that most member in Audioasylum believe the cables must in equal length for both channel, but I do not know if they can tell the differences when the cables are in unequal length. Not surprised at that. It is a good rule of...
Can speaker cables be too thick?
Chris,Honestly is doesn't really matter but yes thicker is in general is ever so slightly better to avoid power loss and enhance damping. However if you want to delve into complexities see this link Cable diameter and spacingBefore you panic, reme...
subwoofers and panels don't mix
Lightminer,I would suggest that Shefield Drum track will highlight most of the reasons panels and subwoofers don't mix. Drums are some of the hardest sounds to reproduce convincingly, although other percussion instruments (like the piano) will wor...
Pet audiophile peeves - name yours
Those who dish out advice with great conviction and yet are unwilling to stand up and be counted or criticised through sharing photos of their virtual system; like a toy dog that only barks loudly from behind the safety of a fence. If you know eno...
Anyone familiar with the Manger driver?
Derek,I think they nuked the other recent thread. I expect you intended to post the information on this thread instead. In any case I read about the Manger driver and am curious how it controls dispersion. To me it behaves like a ring radiator and ...
Is Quad ESL57 most amazing speaker of all time?
Is Quad ESL57 most amazing speaker of all time? Since this question appears rhetorical perhaps it seeks a circular answer? How about this; The most amazing speaker of all time is one that you keep and use as your main speaker in your system for all...
Different lengths of interconnects ??????
No issue. Electrical signals travel very close to the speed of light. You cannot possibly hear the difference. Since these are line level signals then the voltage drop will be negligeable too (your speaker should have very high input impedance som...

Is there such a thing as audiophile parametric eq?
Restick, I am with Rives. You should not average listening points to get an "average" signal as this totally defeats the purpose of correcting for room modes by smearing/smoothing out the problems. However, in contrast, you should not seek to iron ...
Is Quad ESL57 most amazing speaker of all time?
You are in heaven! I hope the honeymoon lasts. I have not seen the recent HI-FI World article but wondered what you thought of the Gordon Holt article I linked to above? Also do you not agree with Newbee that this speaker forces you to recognize/co...
The Most Minimal System
Minimalist may not necessarily be lowest cost or best value. You may be better off to get a high quality preamp with multiple inputs (including all forms of analog and digital, XLR balanced in/out) then you'll have the flexibility to pass anything...
James Randi vs. Anjou Pear - once and for all
LM,Good point. That is the trouble with any test...it does not prove that all cables do not make a difference....only those two tested. However, perhaps the idea is to show that a rave review may not be as authentic as it is made out to be.
Trying to maximize bass response ......
Not bad IMHO. You could boost the overall level with a sub and then use a PARC to flatten the peaks such that the nulls were less deep. I would not use a PARC or any EQ to enhance the nulls. If you want to judge how bad it is then try Rebecca Pidge...
