Red: 780 nm, Orange: 620 nm, Yellow: 585 nm, Green: 570 nm, Blue: 490 nm, Indigo: 440 nm, Violet: 420 nmPurple is shorter wavelength than Green. Since the light from a CD laser is Red (780 nm) then purple, being further from red than green, will f...

Is there such a thing as audiophile parametric eq?
Rives,Thanks for the thumbs up! You undoubtedly know a lot more about this than I do, since you build the well known and highly praised PARC. Jlambrick,FWIW, I haven't encountered a problem with the Behringer PEQ (I actually have the Feedback Dest...
Crossover-less Speakers
Active speakers do not have crossovers in the traditional sense (where up to half the energy is absorbed in a passive filtering circuit and with all kinds of associated phase issues). Add active speakers to your list to audition and you may be sur...
does anyone sharpie thier CD's???
There is no plausible explanation why it should sound louder. In order to add loudness you would need to add MSB (most significant bits) to the data being read from the CD. This would also require changing the appropriate bits in the error correct...

What mid bass frequencies are you tryind to tame?As far as I am concerned, notch filtering is only effective below 100 HZ. Above 100 Hz the problem of room size comes into play. 100 Hz = roughly 10 feet of wavelength, which means the distance betw...
Cables under the rug.....
Why not do it through the wall properly...with receptacles? If you are handy with a giprock saw and a screwdriver you could make a neat job of it. As long as you are dealing with signal wires (no 120 VAC) you don't need an electrician. Just my two...
How does one get off the merry-go-round?
Perhaps for some it is the journey and sea of constant change that keeps them trapped on the Merry-go-round. Careful perusal of this thread and A'gon site in general shows that many audiophiles claim to have gotten off the merry-go-round (found th...
What SS amp for ATC scm 19 ??
I noted your preferecnes - SS, cheap, detailed, transparent and honest. The 19 prefers a lot of power and you may find yourself wanting to listen louder, as, unlike some designs, it sounds just as good at elevated levels. I'd suggest 150 Watts eve...
Clarinet Music on vinyl or CDs
Opalchip may be well be right about Michaelson's Clarinet playing....I just liked the recording that is all. I don't think I ever got skilled enough at Clarinet to recognize a great player from simply a very good one. Just my two cents...
The Worst Speaker you have ever heard.
i have been listening to quads for so many years that my ears are not receceptive to cones, or horns I know what you mean! The mid range quality on the Quads is tremendous....
Help....I have a blank slate and am flying blind
If you want iTunes, the just buy several AirPort Expresses from apple.com, put them in each room and get a good glass-fiber Toslink cable for each. Can you stream audio from iTunes simultaneously to several Airport Express? (this may be a weakpoi...
Harman/Levinson/Proceed/Lexicon/Revel/ Deal Busted
Private Equity has kind of worked like flipping houses in an up market....many players with no intention of remining as owners for any significant length of time...i.e. many speculators that should not be in the market and who are just looking for...
The Irrational But Efficacious CD Tweak
Well, amazing results happened in my system:1) Great increase of transparency/clarity.2) The soundstage got bigger with more layering.3) Macrodynamics/slam /jump improved. This is normally the sort of thing you can only get by with an amp upgrade...
Clarinet Music on vinyl or CDs
Anthony Michelson playing Clarinet on Musical Fidelity's Clarinet Quintet K 581. This is the best recording I have heard of this very well known piece by Mozart. Here is the website - I suggest you order the K 581 and find out how good it can reall...
