How old are the amps - were the amps everin storage - could it be electrolytic caps aging?
does anyone sharpie thier CD's???
In the old days "the devil to pay" meant to hang off the edge of a ship at sea in order to caulk the longest seam on a ship (where deck meets hull)...now it means to sharpie the edges of your entire CD collection.....*sigh*

VX700,Indeed - I just looked at your impressive home HT system and the quality of your gear is a strong endorsement for the quality of the JL F113 sub. I expect we will continue to hear great things from JL. Sorry if my cautionary note was only ba...

The JL woofer looks impressively built - so this may be a good start. Nevertheless, if you want to watch music DVD at audiophile quality distortion levels (not just impressive volumes by moving copious amounts of air, as in car systems or war movi...

James Randi vs. Anjou Pear - once and for all
First, he/she must have a “media presence,” which means having been published, written about, or known to the media in regard to his/her claimed abilities or powers Surely that suggests most reviewers and any cable manufacturer with a web site th...
Speaker Preferences?
panels rule, don't be a cone fool ! Well I can't fault you on your preference for the famous Quad EL sound but I know of the odd speaker that can comes close to matching the quad in the mid range (not better) and have great bass and dynamics too...

4est, I know that in my system, different cables are easily distinguished Have you contacted Randi about the Million dollars, or if not, why not (too busy like John Atkinson, for a million bucks)?
James Randi vs. Anjou Pear - once and for all
Indeed, given the conviction with which many people talk about extremely high cost cables, break-in and other questionable tweaks...surely someone would step up to the plate, for a million bucks!I can see why an editor or reviewer might not want t...
Crossover-less Speakers
don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but even "single driver" speakers have crossovers. Different parts of the cone respond at different frequency, so there is a mechanical, rather than electronic, crossover. "Whizzer" cones, found on some...
Speaker Preferences?
at the risk of being labelled an elitist, why is speaker selection so critical if recordings feature mainly amplified instruments ? Hang on...acoustic instruments all sound different too!How can you judge what is real timbre anymore than with amp...
Smooth and silky top end
I suspect it is partly to do with slew rate.It may explain why, on the whole many SS amps sound alike, however, a few have a distinctly silky or smoother treble...for example Luxman comes to mind in the smooth treble SS category and Bryston comes ...
Crossover-less Speakers
This is the first time I heard of a pyramid scheme in audio. I know this type of thing exists in other markets like tupperware, vitamins and cosmetics. Anyone else know of similar schemes in audio? (where a consumer gets commissions for recruiting...
