Change to Horns or stay Dynamic
Thermal compression is real and one of the most important as well as overlooked parameters in loudspeaker performance. Absolutely...northern european woofers with a voice coil the size of a mere tweeter and a metal phase plug to try and keep cool...
Change to Horns or stay Dynamic
I dont feel active has any advantage in sound quality over well designed passive, you will get greater dynamics for you are running multiple amplifers with an active and a bit less insertion loss over passive but this is a nonissue if networks of...

Shadorne, from my minor experience. . . JRDG 7M delivering max 170A peak ad damping factor of 170 is borderline for controlling bass drivers of Vienna Mahlers. At 1000, JRDG 501s and 312 seem just about right. . . Nuforce at 4000 is perhaps overd...
room treatment effectiveness
It turns out when you are dealing with modal characteristic it affects it everywhere except the null points, which you don't care about anyway. Thanks for correction. It illustrates your point about your services and their value.
room treatment effectiveness
My new speakers (ESP Boshran SE) produce an energy excess of 11 db at 200 hz in my room. The only placement that lowers this figure is with the speaker 8 inches from the wall and then there is no sound stage This is typical of quarter wave cancel...

Dgad, It is funny how ATC & PMC have not been as successful in the US as other companies. You need to hear one of their "ugly" three ways playing Sheffield Labs drum tracks in order to immediately understand why pros go for them. They are defi...

Lighter materials are inherently faster and more re-active Inuitively it would seem that way. However materials need to be rigid as well. In order to make something light and rigid at the same time you end up with something that "rings like a bel...
System Building 101
Lets hope that it becomes even more informative . The people who will read a technical thread like the one you allude to are generally those that are probably already on the right path towards 'common sense' great sounding systems already (no matt...

MC402 appears to have a damping factor of 40. This may be too low for Vienna speakers. worth listening too. . . but I suspect result may be a little woolly. G. ...but 40 is fairly high enough (I mean not a lot of difference between 40 and 400 dam...
Review: REL Acoustics Britannia B-1 Subwoofer
One distinguishing feature of the older REL subs is that they generally all have low group delay (sealed box). This is at the expense of higher ouput capability but is probably responsible for the "musical" sound. (the 12 db/octave roll off actual...
System Building 101
I hope that other knowledgable people will join in with their expertise to make this thread sort of a one stop source for learning about system component compatibility The most important ingredient is common sense. Unfortunately, newcomers to the...
Computer Speakers Under $200?
If you want the best then NHT M00 and S00 is hard to beat.Chuck Ainlay uses them and Chuck is recognized as one of the top sound engineers in the world. You did say "best"...the only danger you face is that your PC may sound as good or better than ...
I just don't get PC Audio
I am just not getting it, other than the two (some may say only one) pros I listed above, why else would an audiopile get a computer audio front end??? It is certainly not cheaper, in fact it is most likely way more. I agree with you - however pr...
Celestion for 2008?
I agree with Jaybo - I would add that latest Martin Logans are pretty good in this department - low level play with nice mids - they seem to have integrated the conventional woofer well with the narrow curved panel design (gets excellent dispersion).

What are good models and manufacturer's for actives? Genelec 8050A - you may find these at your local music or guitar shop - they will probably be close to the best of the active near fields mini-monitors you can audition at a pro music store (wh...
