I've $4k to spend on used speakers for big room
I appreciate your thinking, and you may be right. I've just loved the MBL sound.... I did get a very good unexpected deal on the pair, so it's a good way for me to sample the MBL sound Good for you! Sometimes a deal is too good to turn down!Sorry...
B&W 800d's or MAGICO V3's?
Firstly you have great speakers so if you never ever changed I would understand as that would probably be the most sensible thing to do. As others have said you are changing for teh sake of changing. However, perhaps you have the 7 year itch. What ...
Your vinyl guilty pleasure???
How about Danny Kaye "Tubby the Tuba"?

Well, I ended up pulling the trigger on the MBL 121s For a large room with vaulted ceilings and for listening to rock music I think you ignored the good advice here and have made a mistake. I hope you got a great deal as you will very likely be s...
speakers for classical music
A live orchestra can reach 115db peaks BTW. Most speakers and electronics would be too oppressive at those levels to be tolerable, and the vast majority would be lucky to get within 10db Agreed and distortion is the primary reason why it sounds o...
Can tubes ever be as quiet Solid State
I can turn the volume up completely with nothing playing and there is no sound, complete silence. Was it plugged in?I have not even heard SS that can do that - not if you put your ear up to the tweeter with the volume turned all the way up.
In your opinion, what is Hi, Medium and Low end?
Gogirl you need to read this - Hair Dryer for SaleWell - if you you use a "Chi" hair dryer then at least yours is not yet for sale on Audiogon. This one is apparently a Conair. There is hope yet!
Change to Horns or stay Dynamic
the radiation pattern of horn speakers are just as important as their increased dynamic contrast That was my point to Dgad early on.Horns are great for dynamics/detail - especially with TAD drivers - just be careful of extremely long throw horns ...

I know - [MBL 101] compltely different speaker and pricepoint, but I liked the midrange and treble on them If you like midrange and treble on MBL's then you like wide dispersion speakers. Dr Floyd Toole in the 70's found this was pretty much the ...
Which Sub. Rel B-1 or Fathom F-113
If you check HT Shack Subwoofer test you will see data on the JL F113 - it is pretty impressive (although distortion is a wee bit high - and compression does become an issue - however it is amazingly good for such a small sub - appears to beat eve...

I think it's a mistake to plan on clipping, even if it's mostly 2d harmonic. An amp that's clipping a your listening levels likely has very high distortion, particularly in the bass and highs. This should be avoided if you want accurate musical p...

Equivalent input noise is several orders of magnitude higher with tubes. There is really no way to get around this. Semiconductors come in all sorts - so you can design circuits specifically for low noise depending on gain/impedance requirements e...

Gogirl, if you happen to find your tourmaline hairdryer missing then it might be time to examine your relationship....but be very careful - between you and the tourmaline hair dryer - a true audiophile will always choose the hairdryer...
Change to Horns or stay Dynamic
This loudspeaker also uses pro-drivers made by TAD and Beyma. See a trend here? Sadly - the use of pro drivers is all but ignored - however a nice shiny aluminium driver with stunning shiny copper phase plug => that will catch the eye everytim...
Change to Horns or stay Dynamic
For audiophile drivers cone size and voice coil size are of secondary importance. Contrast this with the pro drivers' big voice coils and oversized and vented magnetic cores that can sustain prolonged periods of abusive power (read 400-600 watts)...
