the present crossover does'nt provide a low pass filter IMHO, whay you may need is a "high pass filter" to prevent ultra LF reaching the drivers...I'd cut everything below 30 Hz....I don't think you have a "subwoofer" in the modern sense - I thin...
Ringo Starr or Charlie Watts???
I really never noted the Beatles for drumming at all. Funny how some people get it and others don't - I certainly don't get it with Ringo - but I agree he is superb but is he remarkable? Melodies seems to stand out most in my mind coupled with rat...
How To Add A Sub To B&W N802's
JL F113 or SVS PB13 Ultra are worth checking out.

Also how is the power consumption for these units - i.e. can you run them off the same 15 amp circuit w/o any problem.Power consumption is low - no more than four amps for the pair - Since the speaker and amp are matched they can design them with...

105dB continuous at the listening seat is "crazy loud". I agree and there are few non horn speaker designs that can achieve this cleanly at two or more meters. I would not recommend listening at these levels and agree that 95 db spl is plenty lou...
What crossover for stereo subwoofer?
I'd recommend this Behringer DCQ2496...it will let you experiment to get the optimal bass management you need.

Narrowing the field a little. Not interested in horns, electrostats, personal (vs established company) designs etc. Speaker must sound good for both 105 db orchestral and 70 db chamber. David,Ok - let me see - no horn, no panels, no boutique desi...
Anthem AVM 20 vs AMV 30
This looks like a very old thread. If it is any help to others - I am still quite pleased with my really old AVM20 - terrific functionality better than anything else, IMHO. Only drawback is that I found it benefitted slightly from power conditioni...

If this is the case, then you have a band-pass enclosure. And if it uses Scan-Speak drivers . . . the vast majority of which have a pretty low Qes . . . that means that this is probably a sixth-order bandpass enclosure. Also, a 6th-order bandpass...

For example, a variovent with a high-end TC Sounds woofer, like the ones used in JL Audio subs, would probably work very well. Yes but even the LMS-Ultra 18 with 4 inch Voice Coil and 30 mm Xmax is suited to a 6.5 cu Ft sealed box - this is one o...
Subwoofer damping
I just read Dukes comments and I still don't get it ... a variovent is supposed to allow for a smaller box than the woofer would normally require....but the box itself is already so huge.Maybe this design is close to an infinte baffle subwoofer wi...
Recommend me a bright musical Bookshelf speaker.
When piano sounds like a piano and strings sound like actual strings and not like a fishing line strung over a plastic bucket. I know exactly what you mean in your description....this hyped sound is what most people actually want and it is hardly...
Subwoofer damping
The box must be a folded horn or bass bin....it is too big for acoustic suspension. The problem with folded horns is the out of band noise from cabinet vibration (two parallel sides along the horn) and issues at sharp angles as you turn corners. Y...
I need some speaker help
I'm willing to spend the money for the right set of speakers that will hold up to Joe Bonamassa crankin'.You need clean amplification and spreakers with pro drivers (not consumer speakers with northern european mass produced drivers). Horns with ...

It sure sounds like you were overdriving it from the way you describe the sound.
