Tubes? Transistors? Which are better? tubegroover, ewe could be right - for *me*, while i *do* love what tubes do, i *also* can't give up the accuracy of ss at the frequency extremes, or the dynamics of ss. as far as preamps go, there seems to be lotsa tube-gear that really makes no s...
"Sizzling" tweeters at high volume? trelja, the newform's have ribbons from 1khz up; below 1khz, they currently run the scan-speak revelator mid-woofs, either 5.5" or 6.5", depending on the model. ya, the accuton mid-woofs would replace the scan-speaks - also excellent drivers in th...
Help With My Next Upgrade Please what preamp are ya currently using? perhaps a comparable investment in a better preamp will yield better sound than the upgraded cd-player. then, in less than a year, there will perhaps be a multi-format player at a good price on the market...
CD Player w Volume control-Suggestions? at that price point, yule get best sound running an inexpensive cd-player thru a nice $3000 tubed preamp - especially if ya buy used. i'd put my $350 ($500 retail) nad cd-changer + $2000 ($4600 retail) melos music-director preamp up against any co...
Best Car Stereo i tink canton makes about the best car speakers around - i have a set in my daily-driver alfa gtv6. but, i must confess that the alpine cd-player/head-amp has been sittin' on a shelf in the laundry room for ~5 years, and my ~90-mile daily commute ...
Tubes? Transistors? Which are better? i think there's an inneresting dichotomy here - w/tubed amps, ya gotta spend a *lot* of money to get a total sound as good as reasonably-priced solid-state amps. (craig, mebbe the s-f power three wooda done it for ya). and, i tink yust the opposit...
"Sizzling" tweeters at high volume? hi trelja, inneresting - many folks have similar comments about these tweets, but i like 'em a lot in my meret's, driven by electrocompaniet amps. as much as comparably-priced proacs, which i also like a lot, w/their dynaudio-derived tweets.that sa...
preamps - vtl tl5.5/rogue 99/linn kairn hi all, phunny, i started this thread last may - was it really that long ago i started looking for a preamp? :>) telescope_trade, the 1st tube pre i had in my system was the magnum wersion of the rogue 99 - it was too coloured & had poor bas...
Microphonic tubes... i'm w/photon46. my toob experience is wery limited - only w/preamps w/the 6sn7 toob, & the 6922. i found the 6sn7 to be a lot more microphonic than the 692 regardless of which mfr, & i had 3 different types of 6sn7 & 3 different types ...

Pre-amp for a NYAL Moscode 300? i'd recommend the melos ma-11 at $400. i have a music director, & i tink it's outstanding. also heard the sha-gold, & *it's* excellent. one of the enginers bought what's left of the company, & they're servicing/upgrading old product, a...
REGA-VPI JR- LINN- OR ? UNDER $800 i think the o-l modified rb250 is a killer arm, but then again, i've not had any of the really spendy arms in my set-up. this is one area, where, if i like the sound, i take the reviewers' word that it's good... :>) as i replaced the ft-3 at th... |
