Do Streamer only devices really impact sound quality? The DAC is much more important. I like to go optical off the streamer to prevent noise from being transmitted from the streamer.
Why are there so many wooden box speakers out there? @kenjit I would love to hear if you have left the sidelines and purchased your first system. Tell us what you own please.
Powered speakers show audiophiles are confused For me I don’t care for the control room sound that monitors like Genelec produce. I respect what they do but don’t enjoy music through them….the sound is too edgy and analytical.
What Gear Has Disappointed You? Vincent Audio SV-500 hybrid amp. It was sterile, lean, and bright sounding. It sounded like bad Class D, even though it was AB with a tube input stage. The person who bought it from me loved it though so taste matters.
Denafrips Ares II - Why did you sell? @alvin1118 is the new Denafrips Ares Anniversary edition worth upgrading for current Ares II owners? https://www.denafrips.com/ares-12th
DACs that do well without a preamp @fastfreight thanks for explaining. I didn't mention but probably obvious is synergy. The combined sound of a preamp and power amp can of course be more preferred than the individual character of each piece.
DACs that do well without a preamp i tried several DACs w analogue volume control. All sounded better through my preamp. I guess If you do not have a good preamp, it is a nice way to go. A good preamp improves the sound to my ears, that I have tried. @fastfreight IME, if you...
Do YOU have a flat frequency response in your room? Amplitude at frequency is one piece of the puzzle. The real question is where the dip or bump is. From 1.5k to 3k a bump will create a bright speaker and a dip will create a polite speaker. Having said that measurements can be misleading as mi...
Why do so many sellers take offense to offers on their listings? There are times where low ballers will offer 30-50% but are prepared to pay much closer to ask price. I know this because when I ignore their offers they keep coming back with higher offers…but I still ignore them because IMO they are more likely ...
THE IMPORTANCE OF TIME DOMAIN RESPONSE MUST READ We need to make it mandatory for speaker companies to publish the time response of all their speakers so that consumers can easily compare and decide exactly what they want. We? Do you have a turd in your pocket? ;-)
Active Speakers Better? No, per Michael Borresen The synergy is built into the loudspeaker and the audiophile doesn’t have to search for some magical pairing of loudspeaker and amplifier. Active loudspeakers definitely have the potential for better sound compared to passive designs. Whose syn...
Thoughts about the "Cheapaudioman" on YouTube He considers the Sony sscs5 speakers reference grade and uses them to evaluate products like Denafrips Ares 2....while using test tracks from Metallica and Korn...it's quite a show. ;-)
Thoughts about the "Cheapaudioman" on YouTube but i like his channel. i’d drink a beer with him This I believe is his genius/gift. He has the rare ability to convince people that he is their good friend/drinking buddy. His new wrist watch channel will be popular for the same reason. Perso...
Thoughts about the "Cheapaudioman" on YouTube IMO calling him a sellout is completely unfair. I mean he completely changed. What he used to make fun of he has become. Him refusing to pronounce Schiit out of fear of losing a few bucks is too cringey for me. If he would have started his c...
Thoughts about the "Cheapaudioman" on YouTube His review of the sony ss-cs5 speakers was spot on. I bought those and very quickly returned. They were very bright and thin…brittle sounding. They sounded to me like a cheap speaker with two tweeters. I paid $88 but felt they were worth $50 as... |
