Six DAC Comparison
For me it comes down to where I want to color the sound. The DAC, pre, and power amp are all viable contenders.
Quick question for the Cables Don't Make a Difference Crowd.
I find it interesting that we can get so emotional on the topic of cables...it's the science types poking at those who are invested in cables...and the investors getting defensive. I side with the investors because 9 out of 10 times they are mind...
so bass traps in corners do nothing, it seems we have been fooled. or are being fooled.
Thanks for sharing. That's the best treated/looking small room I can remember seeing. The only over the top thing that could be done is building in a floor cavity to deal with the floor bounce. I saw that once in a home theatre.  Great work! I'm...
Leave it Open or Close it Off: A Listening/ Living Room Dilemma
when i leave the door open behind my listening position...the bass is more even as confirmed by my measurement mic. It's effectively a free full range bass trap.
Audiogon seller's question
Lets say I buy a $2000 pair of speakers Friends & Family...I also pay extra for insurance....but lets say the packing isn't great....insurance will blame the packaging and deny the claim... so good luck getting the seller to give back $2000 i...

For the people out there that buy bass traps and don't find much results...I have discovered: 1. The treatments are usually in the wrong places (low velocity areas).   2. The treatments aren't thick enough or heavy enough...foam wedges on amazon...

@shalommorgan I have a room with very similar dimensions. What areas did you discover had the highest bass velocity or were the biggest problem areas? For me, the corners behind my speakers were the biggest problem so I filled them both to the ce...
DAC upgrade from RME
I had the RME ADI-2 FS V2 (AKM chip) and Chord Mojo 2 at the same time.  The Mojo 2 sounded a little more natural without giving up detail or perceived speed.  The RME sounded more in my face....front row center (exciting presentation)....with t...
JBL's Marketing Blunder..
this is definitely how younger women communicate.

I have GIK corner bass traps. They are very effective in the corners behind my speakers. They didn’t do much in the corners behind my listening position...so I stack two of them in corners behind my speakers. apparently the bass pressure was grea...
Preamp suggestions for Atma-Sphere Class D Monoblocks
Great points @atmasphere I have very short RCA cables & my Mojo 2 source is set to 3 Volts...if I set the Mojo DAC to 1 Volt, the sound softens...so having a source with some balls & a short RCA run could be why I’m not getting the thin l...
Preamp suggestions for Atma-Sphere Class D Monoblocks
Passive has no sound....so when a person says passive sounds like X....X = the natural sound of the power amp & DAC
Preamp suggestions for Atma-Sphere Class D Monoblocks
@roxy54 hopefully others get a chance to hear their power amps for what they are...before deciding whether or not to change the sound.  I love my solid state Van Alstine power amp with a passive pre. The distortion profile of the power amp is jus...
Preamp suggestions for Atma-Sphere Class D Monoblocks
First, you must hear Ralph's amp with no active preamp to see if you like the sound or if color is needed.  You can do this with the passive Schiit Sys for $50.  If you like what you hear, you can buy a proper pre such as the Benchmark HPA &am...
Help me understand the current amp market
you're getting recommendations from Benchmark, Pass Labs, & SET amps...wildly different sounds...you would need to define better.  Benchmark is a technical winner for example...but you may find the sound lean or not organic compared to higher...
