What's better 100w class a or 200w class ab? This is all very interesting, but why don't you just listen to the two ? I would imagine that this question cannot be answered theoretically since it depends on how loud you listen, what type of music, and your preference for the type of sound.
Cable directionality Bigtee .. I think Audioengr was saying that your signal ground (where the current is sunk and sourced) was your power cord ground lead. I think this is correct. If course AC current doesn't go part down one wire and part down another ... rather it...
Cable directionality Zaikesman ... I'm an electronics engineer. We engineers are always being bashed on this board for being closed minded to what audiophiles have "heard with their own ears".For once I am inviting explanation for something I am extremely skeptical of...
Cable vs. Electronics: biggest bang for the buck Agree with Rcrump. In fact 10% was my rule of thumb. I make my own cables (it's not rocket science) so I can get quite nice looking and sounding cables for my whole system for a few hundred dollars. (My system is about $4k).
Cable directionality OK so interconnect shielding is grounded at one end only, hence the cable is "directional".But I have seen "directional" speaker cable, and I cannot think of any possible explanation for this. Can anyone offer a plausible explanation?
Small monitors for a dear aunt ls3/5 are good speakers .. I have used them with Quad amps. However I think they're a bit overpriced in the US when sold used. Just my opinion. Spica's are much better value this side of the atlantic. TC-60 is a more capable speaker than the ls3/5...
Small monitors for a dear aunt I second the recommendation for Epos and Spica speakers. Both are great. The Epos is more capable, particularly at the frequency extremes, but also about twice as expensive. As for amps there are quite a fewCreek 4340Audiolab 8000A (used only)Miss...
Interesting link on hifi stuff (2) Lastly I cannot believe that there is anything that the ear can discern that is not measurable. The frequency response, dynamic range and phase sensitivities of the human ear are hardly so great as to present problems with measuring equipment.When...
Interesting link on hifi stuff (2) JCAudio .. no I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is that if you can't immediately explain why your ears hear a difference it's because your theory is not good enough.Take an example ... digital cables. Basic theory says it's just ones and zeros,...
Interesting link on hifi stuff (2) TWL : agree ... but I'd like to think that we're in the business of critiquing such web pages, not trashing them. In general I find your posts very interesting and I'm quite keen to listen to a low power valve amp with high-efficiency full range d...
Interesting link on hifi stuff (2) I think you're too harse in your criticism. His biggest faux-pas is presenting opinion as fact, but this a very common failing. That aside, here are a few excerpts I agree with :"is often accompanied by a resonant peak, which can add ringing and a...
Here's a fun cable question............... $5k goes on the system and the other $25k is used to fund my year off work to listen to it. As for cables, I'm with TWL, though military surplus places are an alternative to radio shack.
Manners, Eticks & Audiogon --- What do you think??? I'm afraid it's caveat emptor. But that's OK because you're getting used stuff at good prices. If you want more protection in a transaction buy it from a dealer, and pay the premium. I don't understand why your expectations are higher. Like you sa...
Best value speakers available Epos are the best inexpensive UK speakers value for money IMO. B&W are good for rockers, but do not handle subtlety well enough for me to want to buy a pair.I also think some of the KEF reference series give a lot for the money.I'm afraid I'm ...
Cd player is skipping ...need advise. Here's a cheap isolator : Get a block of concrete or a marble chopping board.Place on top of 2-3 inches sheet of soft foam, orinflated bike inner tube.Place CD player on top of the concrete / marble. Not perfect, but worked for my turntable, when I... |
