Martin Logan Ascents & REL Storm Set-up, HELP I don't know the ascents, but I own a REL strata and I have found that you should set the crossover frequency to about 10Hz below the rolloff frequency of the mains, and fine tune from there. If this ends up being at 30Hz or below then you may fee...
Junked audio components - hazardous waste... Junked audio is almost certainly hazardous waste, and it is a tribute to human stupidity and short sightedness that we never consider how we'll dispose of things when we start creating them. However Agon is a great recycling scheme ... and quality...
How do you determine how much to spend on speakers I'm from the UK and I think that the source first arguments (garbage in, garbage out) are nonsense ... the entire signal path is equally important. I agree with Will that cheap CD players sound remarkably good, but I've only heard a couple of expe...
Want speakers for 700 but none sound good. I would add my vote for Epos, Rega and Spica TC50/60. Of these I think the Spicas are by far the best, but perhaps not for loud rock. Their strengths are imaging and detail, but not SPLs.
Acid Jazz? Try James Taylor Quartet from England. My favourite album is called "Extended Play". I'm not sure if it is still available.
Time to get things straight. Maraknetz ... that's why the TT doesn't cost much more than the arm. What's your answer to Ohlala's question ?If you're comparing a P3 with a Sondek that's not really a very sensible comparison.
Sound quality vs. Mood I agree ... sound is in our brains not our equipment. The way we perceive things changes with moods, fatigue, time of day. I suspect this effect is also responsible for much of the "burn in time" required on solid state electronics.
Time to get things straight. The comments on the glass and thr particle board being cheap are correct. That's why Rega is a good design ... because the money is spent where it matters. On the arm. A good design spends the money where it is needed and saves where it is not.The...
Time to get things straight. "Don't knock it if you don't know it" ... have you owned a Rega table ?Also I don't know why you always use the glass and particle board argument against the Rega. Is there anything wrong with these materials ?But at the end of the day I like my R...
It's a Bad Movie, But It Was Fun to Watch Anyway I second the Ed Wood movies ... absolutely hilarious, especially "Glen or Glenda".
Audiolab 8000Q preamp? Audiolab was a highly respected british manufacturer, I would say more highly regarded than Quad in England. They were bought out by TagHeuer, so you don't see the name anymore. Audiolab equipment is renowned for being neutral and accurate. It's n...
how many have a WAF? My wife has (since before I met her) five cats. That took some getting used to. My stereo took some getting used to for her (especially the Spica Angelus speakers). She always said that the cats filtered out the jerks (she observed her boyfriends'...
Best Cable for canceling RFI Sound not being affected by the volume control just means RFI somewhere after the volume control, which could be in the power amp (that section of your integrated amp) or in the speaker cable. I think it's more likely in the amp, since speaker sig...
Best Cable for canceling RFI When you disconnected the interconnects was it at the amp or the source end ? You should have disconnected at the amp end to make sure the interconnects were not acting as antennas. Not all interconnects are well shielded, but you can build very g...
Headphones, or Speakers??? Lack of imaging, lack of room vibrations and feeling the deep bass. Headphones are very useful but don't come close to speakers for me. |
