Suggestions for 220v amp If you like a dynamic, punchy sound (apparently this is krell's forte) then look at Cyrus (British). If you get a Cyrus integrated amp with the optional PSX power supply then this would probably give you enough power. I used to own a Cyrus 2 and P...
Spica TC-50's vs 60's. Differences + Maintanence. My wife made a comment the other day ... she said "We can put your speakers in the living room and tell Isabella (our young daughter) that if she's naughty the speakers will eat her !". Gives you an idea of what my wife thinks of the aesthetics of...
Best used speakers around 500 for clasic rock I think the B&Ws come with removable foam plugs for the reflex ports in case they're in corners or against rear walls. Corner placement will kill imaging, but I expect you know this.
Best used speakers around 500 for clasic rock I second the B&W DM603 ... not the most subtle, but they do certainly rock.
Spica TC-50's vs 60's. Differences + Maintanence. On the subject of maintenance I believe that both drivers are still in production for the TC-60, but that the TC-50 LF driver (which is shared with the Spica Angelus) is out of production. Whether audax has an equivalent replacement I don't know. ...
A digital revelation I have no experience with this device, but I have a DIP, and I think it is worthwhile. How good were the instructions ? It's one thing to select the correct frequency, but to know how/where to insert it is another. BTW I am a EE and I can read cir...
Which upgrade should be my priority? I was going to say I agree with Natalie, but if your speakers are on wobbly shelfs, or worse then speaker stands would probably make an appreciable improvement. For me power cords are a 2nd order effect, and speaker cables can be DIY for little cos...
Hurricane sounds - very dynamic but bad How's it going this morning ? Let us know when the storm has passed and you've assessed the situation. Hope all's OK.
How to Achieve Great Imaging & Soundstage For great imaging on the cheap look for used Spica Tc-60s or Angelus (which I own). They don't play high SPLs and they're not the most dynamic speaker, but they have fantastic imaging and a very non-fatiguing top end. And they're both
How to Achieve Great Imaging & Soundstage I think speaker positioning in the room is more important than the equipment. I'd go as far as to say that you're wasting money on expensive equipment if the room layout is not good for imaging. My favourite sites are Cardas:http://www.cardas.com/...
Cable vs. Electronics: biggest bang for the buck Asa: I think you're right. The whole system must be engineered correctly, amps, wires, speakers, everything. There is materials and electronics science behind the design of a good cable. However there are two issues upon which I currently refuse t...
Realistically, will the Spendor S 3/5 work for me? While you're speaker shopping be sure to get some Spica Tc-60s. I like the ls3/5, but I prefer Spicas. The imaging is just amazing. So many speakers, so little time :-) Thank heavens for the used market.
Realistically, will the Spendor S 3/5 work for me? I have a friend with a similarly sized room using Ls3/5s to good effect. He has a Quad pre/power rated at 100W, but it's rarely turned up very far. He has no sub !I think overall the S3/5 probably would work for you, but I don't think you'll have ...
Bright room, help Hang some nice decorative rugs on the wall. Kana813 offers good advice. Here's another great site on positioninghttp://www.audiophysic.de/produkte/aufstellung/aufstellung_e.htmlAlso try a rug on the floor, (with non-slip backing of course). Rugs o...
What does Current mean in a power amp??? Perhaps "pissing contest" was a little harsh? :-)The posts are interesting, though. |
