Equipment Break-in: Fact or Fiction
Drubin .. sometimes changing cables can improve the connection. A connection left in place for a long time can be prone to oxidation and dirt. I have had this experience once or twice when my system has had to be moved after several years of no ch...
Best Dark Sounding Amp For Bright Speakers?
If the speakers are the offenders why are you not considering changing speakers ? I'm not being impertinent, I'm just curious as to your reasoning.
Equipment Break-in: Fact or Fiction
Redkiwi .. here here! Some think burn-in is in one's head. Others think it's in the equipment. Neither side appears to have presented conclusive evidence (electrical measurements, or psychoacoustical studies), so lets all be happy to differ. So lo...
Speaker Cable directionality: reversable??
Bob .. I think you'll find that most "naysayers" would like a good explanation. I'm a naysayer because 1) I was not able to hear a difference with "directional cables". None whatsoever. I do believe that cables themselves make a big difference, so...
Speaker Cable directionality: reversable??
Twl .. phasing of speakers is done so that the cones don't move in opposition, causing cancellation. How can wire possibly have a similar effect ?Bob .. your answer is interesting, but I have yet to hear any difference for myself, so perhaps, even...
Speaker Cable directionality: reversable??
Oleander .. sorry for the misunderstanding ... you can get banana-spade adaptors, as other posters said. You seem to have replied without reading my post .. if you hook them up the wrong way around won't you always be a bit curious as to whether it...
Equipment Break-in: Fact or Fiction
rbnl ... are you sure that Boeing's burn in doesn't relate to safety ... that is, electrical equipment is most likely to fail during the first few hundred hours. All manufacturers of safety-critical electronics perform such burn-in to prevent fail...
Speaker Cable directionality: reversable??
Shielded speaker cables ? Are you sure you're not confusing them with interconnects ? Why on earth would anyone shield speaker cables ?My personal opinion : wire is not directional. Interconnects may be directional, due to shielding only being gro...
3 Brit players around 2,000 retail-which wins?
Did anyone compare these units with the Naim CD5 .. it's not much more.
proac 2.5 vs 1sc/sub
Hi Locust ... I think you made a good decision ... every time you trade equipment you usually lose a bunch of money. If you ever get a convenient opportunity to home demo a good sub then I'd try it, even in a small room, even with the 2.5s. I can'...
proac 2.5 vs 1sc/sub
I can't speak for the proac speakers, since I have heard neither. However I think the small stand mount plus sub combination can be very good for the smaller rooms, since it gives you much more flexibility in placing smaller speakers in the right ...
Interconnect length
Sugarbrie ... I think your explanation is good ... an over-bright system might prefer longer cables. I was refering to an electrical/physics reason why a longer cable might pass a signal with less degradation ... that I just can't believe. Not wit...
Interconnect length
0.6m is better than 0.5m ? Now I have heard it all. Someone has really got to give me an explanation for that.Drubin ... I have read that long interconnects are better than long speaker cables, especially if you have the option of balanced interco...
Interconnect length
I think shorter is better. I have heard the difference. I make my own cables, so I can make long ones and short ones and have spares lying around since they're so cheap. As I understand capacitance is the most importance factor in interconnect sou...
Sound Proofing 101
Rives gives excellent advise. Also if your speakers (or stands) are spiked into the floor, then try spiking them (via disks or coins) onto concrete paving slabs, laid on the carpet. This should provide a steady base while reducing coupling with the...
