Integrated versions separate subwoofer
Pyite .. if you have truly full range speakers then I think you're wasting your money buying a separate sub and crossover.By full range I mean speakers that are flat to below 25Hz ... there's not many of them, and I would think they would have to ...
Integrated versions separate subwoofer
No .. there's no concensus. If your listening room is small a separate subwoofer can give more flexibility in placing the main speakers for imaging and the sub for optimum bass loading.Either way good deep bass is quite expensive. If you get a sepa...
Best Sax Jazz
CP .... I didn't have a particular date in mind, but probably anything of the late 70s onward, though to me the 50s and 60s was the heyday. As I said I'm not well versed in jazz, but then again nothing I've heard on borrowed CDs or FM has made me ...
Best Sax Jazz
Sd ... your comment that jazz is dying. I can only give a personal perspective, and I really have a limited exposure to jazz, but to my ears since the 60s jazz has just sounded more and more like musicians showing off technical prowess, rather tha...
Putting floorstanding speakers on stands...
On the other hand you could always throw out those midget "girly" floorstanders and get yourself some "real man's" floorstanders ... preferably ones that require 2-3 people to lift, and will kill you if they fall on you.
Putting floorstanding speakers on stands...
If you raise the speakers off the ground then you may get better or worse bass (usually less). Another approach is to tilt the speaker back, so that it fires at your ears, but the distance between the LF driver and the floor is maintained, which w...
CD Players that deliver outstanding vocals
I'd say that the preamp is by far the weakest link in your system. So I'd go along with sogood51's advice.
Garbage in - Garbage out?
IMO it's all important ... and thus funds should be relatively equally split between source, amp and speakers. I'm a Brit, but I remember the "source first" argument was started by Linn, who at the time were manufacturing .... let's see .... turnt...
So you're an audiophile - are you also a musician?
Clarinet, saxaphone and guitar. I'm certainly not professional level, but I've played in a variety of orchestras, big bands, blues, pop and rock bands, sometimes for money (perhaps that makes me professional).I agree that being a musician brings d...
High value floorstanders around $1k used
A few more candidates:Epos es-25Kef 103/4
Who is your overall favorite guitarist?
Brian May of Queen. Queen played so many styles of music so convincingly, and much was down to his incredible musicianship.
inexpensive XLR cable for a tape deck?
The cheapest will be to go to a local music store and get a mic cable. Should be under $20.
May I add a subwoofer to stereo system?
If you listen to any live music recorded in a large venue then I think you'll love the scale and depth that a good sub adds. My Sub (a rel strata) also adds considerably to 70% of my studio albums, but the live recordings are where it really knock...
What do you think of a Densen-Concertino pairing?
Have you tried the Densen web site ? There's a chatboard where people discuss their systems.I own a Densen B100 and it's a great amp, but as you say, it has a reputation for being a bit fussy. I have only heard the SF concerto, and not with the De...
Monitors Mounted On Wall
I have heard Spendor s3/5 mounted on the wall with target wall mounts (no swivel, spiked stands). Lost some of the imaging but retained a very nice tonal balance, with no noticeable boom. Amp was Quad 405.
