Does anyone know what Elton John's "Tiny Dancer"
I don't know for sure, but here's what I heard. Can't remember my source. Not very reliable, am I ? :-)Elton John doesn't write the lyrics, just the music. The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin. Apparently the "tiny dancer" is Bernie's wife.Tha...
Inexpensive tweak
So we can add cat barf to fairy dust and snake oil .. hey you either believe in it or you don't.
Inexpensive tweak
We have a cat that throws up every time he eats (I think he has a stomach disorder). The vet says he's otherwise in perfect health. We might have to get our cat together with Cardas or Nordost and market him ... say $500 per visit plus our travel e...
10 sonically best rock recordings ?
Phasecorrect ... it's funny because I bought the remaster of "Communique" and to me it sounds much worse than the original LP ... it's al boom and sizzle. I was really disappointed as this is one of my favorite albums.
Question for recording artist/engineers
Onhwy61 is spot on. As an engineer I used to work with once told me "You can't polish a turd". The most important element in the chain is the mic, its placement relative to instruments and the room. I've used ADAT and 2" analogue and both can soun...
What is the best CDP to be used as a Transport?
I'd keep the CD80 until it stops working. I have a Marantz CD67 and in stock form it's a lousy transport. You have to be prepared to lift the lid and modify it in order to lower the jitter and make it a good transport ... per the recommendation fr...
Best mid-size speaker, cost no object
Never heard them myself, but the Harbeth 40s and 30s seem to win universal praise.
Flipping the LP over ...
I think TWL pointed out it depends on the table. On my rega I leave it spinning, per Rega's advise.
Where have all the protest songs gone?
"Has the music arts become so safe and sterile and corporate that no one can hear their still small voice and raise it".I think the whole bloody media is safe, sterile and dumbed down to the lowest level. Media consolidation and ownership by the l...
Any thoughts on older Dual/Denon tables?
Another options would be a used revolver rebel, or NAD table .. both rega knockoffs. I used to own a dual, then went to a Rega planar 3 and it was quite an improvement.
Foolish
There are tons of amps out there now, as you point out Zaikesman, but I've yet to hear anything better than a Fender Super (or Bassman) for Blues and than a Marshall head / 4x12 (I like the celestion vintage 30s) for rock. There are tons of guitars...
Please explain Mulholland drive?
Never mind the hype I thought it was bloody awful. Nice cinematography, but bloody awful.I really liked his previous film, "The straight story", but I guess it wasn't Lynchian enough for his die-hard fans. Also liked Wild at Heart and Blue Velvet,...
Ok this will be a good thread.
On the contrary that was an awful thread. Same old religious arguments, pretty much nothing learned. For the record I think it's all important. Source, amp, speakers, all need to be matched and of equivalent performance. How many threads are there ...
Why do AC cords make so much difference?
Although I have not experimented with AC cords (for lack of time .. young daughter, and daipers being a key reason) my theory is that cords can make a difference for two reasons :1) they can act as low pass filters. I believe that for digital comp...
preamp vs. no-preamp
Twl has a very good point. It is my belief that the reason that some passsive attenuators sound thin and lacking in dynamics is because they fail to present a high enough input impedance to the source and/or low enough output impedance to the powe...
