Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
First and always...Take the tubes out and re-seat them. Sometimes that’s all that’s needed.I have a 2 year old Don Sachs preamp...and the tubes got noisy...scratchy sounding. I simply turned the unit off, took all the tubes out remembering their p...
Relative Spending on Turntables and Cartridges
I think the 70/30 conventions are just guidelines for how much to spend on a cartridge if you already have a TT.If you have neither...then I'd spend WAY more money on the turntable...because that will be, for most situations, the constant. You can...
My thoughts on TT isolation methods.
Nothing seems to bother my 1200G...it weighs about 50lbs by itself. It sits on a solid oak rack that also has hundreds of pounds of LPs in the lower section. Before that it was on a cheap glass and aluminum IKEA rack. Never had an issue with it on...
What's the best and/or favorite piece of equipment you've owned? And do you still own it?
A Carver TFM-35 I bought NOS sealed in the original box from eBay in 2009. I still have it.When hooked up to the Don Sachs preamp gives very little away to his Kootenay. I was surprised that it had very similar upper end resolution. It lost out in...
Tube matching question
I say just leave it as it is. Your tubes will last a long time with the Primaluna. During that time, you’ll probably accidentally rub off logos from the other tubes.
High end stereo preamps? Worth it?
I noticed a difference going from a NAD preamp to a Don Sachs. A little in the dynamics and a little in the delicacy. Put it together and tou get a little better sound. And I can vouch for Primaluna. Running the Don Sachs into a Primaluna Evo400 p...
Desire to try tubes
So here’s something to consider:It seems these days, the higher you go up the food chain, the closer SS and tubes seem to sound. SS amps tend to sound more airy and tubes sound more punchy.I have a Primaluna Evo 400 and have owned a Don Saks KT88 ...
Can I use 24 gauge speaker cable?
@OP:A higher the gauge number = thinner cableA lower gauge number = thicker cable24 is considered pretty thin for the distances you want to run.Going a little thicker (lower number) than required will do no harm so try to err on the that side if p...

Do you use a Subwoofer when listening to stereo?
I had only two subwoofers with full range speakers (Salk Songtowers) so can't speak to having 4+ subs.  When I finally finished treating the room and locked the position of the primary stereo speakers, I decided to go without the subs.  The Salks ...
New Tinnitus study and possible treatment (via Science Daily)
@hilde45No problem! I should mention that all my issues were with my left ear. Right ear is a champ. Most people have issues with their left ear. Seems that most people are right ear dominant regardless of being right/left hand dominant...has to d...
Cartridge recommendation please...
Audio Technica VM740ml.Start there and just upgrade the stylus when it's time to replace.
New Tinnitus study and possible treatment (via Science Daily)
I've had 4000hz notch tinnitus since I was 25. It affects stereo imaging a bit. But just plain sucks...until last winter I lost every ounce of bass and all of the the upper end. When that happens, there is zero ability to form a soundstage. And li...

Technics 1200G I love mine and have various headshells/cartridge combos to play with.A removable headshell makes sampling carts easy and fun. Superlight wood headshells with high compliance carts...middleweight magnesium headshells with medium or ...
