Building a house
Good proportions, solid wood floors, large Persian rug with proper heavy felt underlay, wood paneled walls, rock wall, wall paper or flat paint, crown moulding, acoustic ceiling. And no glazed artwork.Yes I said acoustic ceiling!I know a everyone ...
Choosing new speakers after 20 years
Primalunas have a lot of grunt. I have the Evo 400 amp and it is a great match with Salk Songtower speakers. Even when I had the Dialogue Premium with 4 less tubes...no problems at all. I would highly recommend Salk speakers. Very pleasing and org...
SQ vs. Music
Initially thought this was a funny question but now I find it pretty fascinating.I must be truthful: I listen to the sound quality. Would have liked to say music. But I only buy records I want to hear anyway.I think I have a sheer joy for the way ...
rule of thumb: how long do you leave a tube preamp on versus turning it off then back on?
Unlike SS, which can take several hours to sound their best, tubes amps, preamps get there within an hour in general. My old SS system took 3-4 hours to just start sounding its best...depending on ambient temperature. And this with a tube preamp/SS...
What makes speaker's sound big?
As mentioned, a great sounding room.
Embarrassed....Audio furniture help
I bought six solid oak LP shelves from Maple Shade. Then put some nice white oak euro ply on top and in two of the LP spaces I drilled some holes for shelf standards and now I have 4 shelves for the AV equipment and speakers. The other 4 spaces are...
AC outlets
I have Furutech. But ended up using PS Audio.
Suggest one obsure album we all should hear
Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big & Buzzy-The RefreshmentsIt's oddly available on vinyl. Not sure why I like this album but it's got some magic to it.
Are your current amps and other gear the best you've ever had?
No.But fairly close.
Amp and Pre-Amp suggestions needed
The Don Sachs suggestion is a good one. Completely worth the wait. And built to order to a degree. So if you're concerned about system matching etc., be concerned no more.
Having trouble reducing the vibrations on my turntable setup
I think mass is the key. In my case, I have a little flex in my floor and my system resides in a location that gets a lot of foot traffic. I get zero issues with vibration getting into the playback. Most of this is because I have a Technics 1200G. ...
Tube virgin looking for tube amp under $3k
If you 'think' you need a tube amp...you should get it. Life is short. Although there are excellent SS in your budget, tube amps do sound different.Fo for it. Glad I did and wish I did sooner. For the money, as mentioned, it's hard to beat Quick Si...
Dedicated power
Yes, do run 2 lines. One for analog and one for digital.I recently did this. I got better focus on my bass.As mentioned no need for 30A. Run two 20A lines with 10ga solid copper. Run them on separate legs of the panel. Run the romex at least 12" ap...
JC3+ phono preamp
When you get this resolved, maybe consider replacing the dimmer switches with on/off switches. They are notorious for creating noise.
Best type of metal for turntable platform?
I would use a run-of the-mill Technics turntable as a plinth... completely immune to footfall. What's the next problem?BTW, there are plenty of round things that are designed to vibrate and resonate...look at bells, cymbals and drums. Going square ...
