Sopra 2 Bass
There's probably a place in your room where the bass will be fall into line. Exploit the room.I've had similar problems. A rough formula for me was the 1/5th rule. If you start there, you can make adjustments over time and start to lock the speake...
Recommendations for speakers that sound great at lower volume levels.
I have also noticed great low level, balanced sound with my Salk Songtowers. It's as if I have a subtle loudness switch on all the time. This is regardless of the room they're in and the electronics. My system has outgrown the Songtowers so I'm loo...
How much difference does a phono preamp really make?
Yes AT VM 760SLC will make a big difference because of the profile but also because it's good match for your tonearm.I had a Denon 110 on an SL1200 and it was a good jump up going to even to an AT7V. I now have a 1200G with AT VM750...another jump...
Class D amps seem poised to take over. Then what?
I know the pattern here. Class D will be the new king...until a new king comes along. That's sort of how digital works. It will constantly evolve.
First tube preamp recommendations (under $5k)
Don Sachs probably beats everything up to $6k

What is the sound level of Your Listening Room?
This morning I got an average reading of 18.4dbwith a low of 13.8db in my living (listening) room. I have an acoustic ceiling in the living room. It’s not an open layout. Hardwood floor and giant Persian rug.I think old houses with new windows may...
Electrical circuit "noise"
It seems almost everyone here is about 30? Don't worry, you'll grow out if it.
Speaker size and soundstage
I got a fairly holographic presentation and deep bass with a standard version of the Salk Songtowers with at least half my LPs in my old 18' x 26' room. In my new place, they sound pretty good with better bass balance but not so magical. It's about...
Why did you choose the components and speakers that are in your system?
Technics 1200G:I really, truly wanted a nice belt drive. You know, thick and heavy platter, external power supply, no dust cover...something that just screams "I am an audiophile!". I was coming from an aging but perfectly functioning Technics SL1...
Arrangement of components on rack
Tube amp farthest away on the top (for cooling) on one side...turntable furthest away on the top at the opposite side.Preamp as low as possible below amp (for microphony),  phono preamp and CD player below turntable. In my case, when turning on fro...
How much reality do you really need?
I'm actually pretty satisfied. But there's a huge caveat. My old house had a remarkable room. Even with the far away better components I have, my current system cannot compete with the sonics of the old room and my old Carver TFM-35.I have Salk So...
Turntable help/recommendation with specific setup
Technics 1200GR ($1700) and Audio Technica AT740ML ($329) Great combo.
Fuse Upgrade to Ceramic not glass
After two and a half years of regular use, I blew a fuse in my Don Sachs preamp. Luckily the preamp came with an extra fuse.It was a standard 1A 3AG slow-blow fuse, like the one that blew, but a different brand with a slightly different/thicker wo...
