Found Music Blade Amplifiers
Jazdoc, Great report!  After reading it, I tried to find more information on the Blade but couldn't find anything.  There's no mention of it on Scott's website.  Can you tell us whether the Blade is push-pull or parallel single-ended?I totally und...
Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
I can remember puzzling over "vowel colorations" when JGH used that term many eons ago.  I wasn't sure what he meant then, and I really don't have any better understanding now.  Can you explain how you understand it?  It must be something I am not...

Great article by Art Dudley in October Stereophile.  He comes down squarely on the side of the best vintage speakers not having been surpassed or even equalled by modern speakers.
Best Preamp - NO preamp... (?)
I understand your reaction to bypassing the passive.  It appears you are not substituting anything new but rather just eliminating one link, namely, the passive preamp.  Every signal carrying device has limitations, even if it is just the RCA conn...
Turntable Recommendation 15K budget Avid Acutus, Brinkmann, Oracle, Nottingham,,
You should add the Galibier Gavia II to your list.  It meets your criteria and is a great match with the Triplanar.
Any modern band that comes close to Mahavishnu Orchestra ?
I saw the Mahavishnu Orchestra in 1972 or 73.  Great concert!  My very favorite album is probably Visions of the Emerald Beyond which is best enjoyed with the volume turned up very loud.

Johnk is right---Experience does trump conjecture.  How can anyone argue otherwise?  The problem here is that so few audiophiles have actually heard the speakers he is referencing.  My experience is not as vast as Johnk or Larryi but I have enough...
Equipment Rack
Where are the moderators?  This thread is screaming for some heavy editing.  It's a shame to see a discussion on such an important subject as racks degenerate into personal attacks.  Sistrum and Geoff Kait should take their dispute off the forum. ...
Ebony Denon DL 103. 50 years too late?
Pryso, I couldn't agree more.  Most of my favorite cartridges have been conical starting with Grado FTR (in 1969) and continuing with Decca 4RC, Decca Mk5, Shure V15-IIIG, V15-IVG and Denon 103R.  I have certainly had other types as well and ellip...
Ebony Denon DL 103. 50 years too late?
Fortunately my experience is the 103R stylus lasts considerably longer than 300 hours.  As I said I had nearly 1000 hours when I replaced mine.  I say "fortunately" because the 103R took a full 100 hours to reach its fully broken in performance.  ...

Why are you only expecting 300 hours of stylus life?  My 103R had nearly 1000 when I replaced it with another 103R.
What is more accurate: magnetic anti-skating, or barrel weight attached a fishline?
My experience supports the No Antiskating option.  Each arm where I have tried removing the AS has sounded better than with any amount of AS.  These arms include Triplanar VII, Analog Instruments Siggwan, and Moerch DP-6.  I also used a VPI JMW-10...

Do you have contact info for this cabinet builder in TN?
Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
Larry,Yes, there is something about the old school paper cone woofers.  The Jensens may not go as deep as modern woofers or have the same impact, at least in my bass reflex cabinets, but they somehow are able to blend seamlessly with the 32 horn a...
Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
Whart, I use an Altec 802-8G compression driver on the 32A horn.  Woofer is a Jensen P15LL which is a 15" with paper cone.  Both drivers have Alnico magnets.  The drivers and horn date from the 1970s, I believe, but are still available on Ebay at ...
