Why do DIY products have less value ?
I would have no problem buying DIY stuff, I would make my own if I had the time, and knew enough about electronics. The whole thing for me is to know what I'm buying. There are already enough scams online. I could tell you that I have a 7' tall ma...
Integrated Amp for Girlfriend?
I second the Audio Refinement. With only three feet instead of four, it is set apart from the other boxes. Sound is great, and the remote is really nice. I'm very happy with the unit and looks matter to me.
Better magazine, Stereophile or Absolute Sound
I agree with Sdcampbell. TAS is a better magazine, but had lost a few of its quality characteristics since they switched to the new layout. I never liked listener. Just a preference I guess. Both Stereophile and TAS are fun to read. Assuming you d...
Speaker recommendation for Rega Mira
Meadowlark Shearwater or Kestrels. I've heard the Mira with both, and it did a great job. Give them a listen.
Another Scam on E Bay
Thanks for sharing. I wish we could have a place on Audiogon just to keep track of anyone that is involved in a scam. 99% of the people are cool. It's the 1% that just ruins everything.
Cable Length for Center Channel?
Jwrobinson and Ericbee, I beg to differ with you. I have heard many a difference or two in my system with different lengths of cables. Can you honestly tell me that your left and right speaker cables are different lengths? I doubt they are that di...
Cable Length for Center Channel?
Yes, they should all be the same length
Snell Reference A Tower v. Paradigm Studio 100 v2
I agree, try the paradigm first. I think they are an excellent value, but I haven't heard them be able to keep up with very high end speakers such as yours. I would honestly question the ability of the paradigms to be as accurate and natural sound...
Single brand vs. multiple brand ICs and ACs
I dont' know that it's totally necessary to use the same cables throughout the system. In my experience cables are used to tune the system. If you want a little more bass, look for a bass heavy cable. If you want to kill some of the brightness fro...
Should dealers be able to......
If one dealer has sent more than one email, just block the address using your email application.
Best Test CD
My vote would be use two discs. A stereophile disc or similar for tones and frequencies and a Burmester Art for Ear volume two. It has a ton of different types of music and is really well recorded.
Help me decide: Anthem Pre2LSE or SF Line 1 Pre
SF Line 1 is better build and sounds better. If you can afford it, go for that one.
Which very dynamic speakers would you recommend?
I second the Legacy Audio recommendation if you want to go higher than Paradigm. I have been a Paradigm owner for a while and would always recommend their line. In the real expensive category, check out the Avante Garde horns
Tube pre amp with 2 outputs for Biamping
Anthem Pre 2L is reasonable. Can usually find one for 550-650 on Audiogon. Also some Rotel units have two sets of outputs. You might want to be careful. Some of the manufacturers that use two sets of pre outs just "y" off the main pre out of their...
2000 or less : best choices for mains?
If you intend to do any music listening, I would stay away from the Paradigm Servo 15. It has tons of bass and is tight, but it's not that musical. It's tough for a 15" to be real musical. I would give the 60's a listen before you settle for the 1...
