500 to spend on int.amp, help me match with gear. I own an audio refinement now and think it is a great integrated. Others to consdier would be a Mistral, anthem INT 1 or 2. You can sometimes find them in your price range. Creek is also a good suggestion. If you don't like the harshness, I would ...
B&W VS Dynaudio ......... Can you explain why you are bored with the B&W's? That might help others make suggestions. I have found the 803 to be a wonderful speaker, especially when driven by Mark Levinson products. Have you thought of keeping the speakers and trying di...
Retail pricing in classified ads I know that the MSRP can change, that is definitely true. Just yesterday I read an ad for a pair of speakers I used to own. These speakers are almost 100 percent of the time listed with incorrect retail pricing. This ad said the speakers retailed ...
$800 Integrated I guess I should have mentioned I have owned the anthem INT 2 once and I currently own the Audio Refinement.
Tube integrated question Anthem INT 1 about 600 bucks used. It's a nice unit.
Need component recommendations for 1,000 system? The only comment I have about Nikki's response is to agree with the MMG's wanting current. I own the MMG's right now. I'm not thrilled with them however. I'm feeding them about 90 watts at 4 ohms and it just doesn't bring the speakers to life I do...
Need component recommendations for 1,000 system? I agree that a B&W 303 would be a good speaker choice. Also a used Creek 4330 would be excellent. I would suggest paradigm studio 20 v.1 used or a pair of mini monitors new for about 300 a pair. I would personally buy the best I could afford w...
How do YOU justify this hobby? If you are interested in a hobby, you usually want the best the hobby has to offer. Art collectors buy art, drag racers buy funny cars. If you can afford it, you'll have it if it interests you enough. Everyone needs something to do with a little s...
Busted Phillips Screws Like Fatparrot said, they are called Easy Outs. First you have to drill a hole into the screw head so you can fit the easy out in there. The easy out is nothing more than a coarse, reverse threaded screw. They do work well if you know how to use t...
How many components annually? Usually about three pairs of speakers per year, and atleast one amplifier. Speakers are easily the component I switch out the most often.
Tube friendly speakers UNDER 1K? B&W CDM 1 NTSoliloquy 5.0 or Soliloquy SM2A3Paradigm Studio 40All of the above should be able to be had for less than 1K with stands.
Sand or Lead shot I haven't seen lead shot available in stores. Only steel shot. This is what I have used for quite some time. I think it works very well. It's not as messy as sand. Don't have to worry about it collecting moisture like sand can.
Is a offer of -20 percent on an OBO ad insulting? 20% is probably not terribly unreasonable. Being a seller myself, I can understand the sellers point of view here. It's exteremely irritating to get many low ball offers in a row. For example, I had speakers listed at 825 for the pair plus shippin...
Lovan equipment and speaker stand owners... I used to have Lovan Affiniti 2400 stands and filled each stand with about 23 pounds of steel shot. I think it worked very well. I will probably never own another pair of monitors without filling the stands. The only trouble I had was getting the ...
Small monitors for a dear aunt I would probably go with B&W CDM 1 NT used and an Audio Refinement integrated used. Or the regular CDM 1 as someone already mentioned. It would be a great way to get very nice sounding system that will last a long time. |
