New cd changer? Anthem makes the CD-1. I believe it is a six disc changer. Tubed. Some people like the sound, others do not. Just a thought.
How can I solve the harshness of my system's sound I agree with Trich, cables are nothing more than fine tuning a system. I've owned quite a few paradigms and have to say a tube pre does them justice. It works excellent with the highs. Anthem has the Pre 2L available on agon for about 650. Well wo...
Bridging or monoblocking?? It all depends on whether or not the amp is set up to be bridged. You usually have to flip a switch on the back to convert it into a bridged situation. Then it would become a monoblock. Meaning one for each channel.
Sound quality vs. Mood For me, things always sound better at night. I heard once that there is less electricity used at night time. No big corporations sucking all the power. Which would explain better sound at night. I definitely agree with moods. My system does change...
Good tube CD player beside AH & Heart ?? Take a look at the Anthem CD-1
B&W CDM 9 / ML Aeons I've got the CDM 1NT's and they do sound really nice. The 9's will add bass of course. However, I find them a little congested in the midrange at times. Personally I like the nautilus tweeter, but not everyone does. The Logans are nice also from t...
Which is better Arcam 85 or Creek 5350Se I can't say much about the Arcam, but I did look at the Creek. It sounds really nice, and it looks sharp. I would think it would be a really good mate for the Soliloquys.
To Bi or not to Bi? That is the question Bi-amping with two different amps can be good or bad. It just depends on the synergy of your system. Make sure each amp is a good match for each cabinet. Personally, I have always used the same amplifiers to do it, but I can definitely see advanta...
How important is "brand name"? No one wants a brand name until the company has earned a ruputation for having solid good sounding equipment. The key is to look for quality. If you find a piece of equipment with a name you have never heard before, take a look inside, see what's ...
Suggestions for Maggie replacements. B&W CM-2 is a very small two way that does a pretty good job. It can't rock, like most 2-ways it's size. But the midrange and top end are good. They sold 900 new, so a used pair is going for like 600-700 I think. They haven't been out long, so...
Tube or SS Preamp with electrostatics & ML amp? Did you consider the matching preamp from levninson?
Retail vs. List Price I agree with Tim. I have been very happy with one dealer I've been using, and I'm willing to pay more to go through them. They treat me well and let me borrow equipment. If it weren't for them I wouldn't be able to listen to any of my speakers bef...
Two 210 x 2 amps or One 500 x 2 amp..... Responding to Unsound, I would think you would want the amplifier after the cross over, that way you each amplifer is responsible for only a range of frequencies instead of them all?I would think biamping is better because it allows isolation of p...
Buying Dealer Demos I bought about half of the speakers I have owned as demos. Saves money. If the place you shop has high quality electronics, I would like to see them damage a speaker just by playing it loud. It is many times harder to damage a speaker with too muc...
What is your most anal audio habit? My cables always have to be in proper order. I'm talking about the speaker cable as it curves to the back of the entertainment center. It has to be the proper radius of curvature and be in the correct location. I have no idea why. It's what I do. |
