right integrated for my system?
The Audio Refinement The Complete would do you just nicely. I think you should really give it a listen. About 550-600 used on the 'gon.
how much should you spend on cable?
I don't know that you can put a price on cables. If you find cables that provide you with good system synergy and they cost .01% of the rest of your system, does it really matter? I don't think so. On the other hand, if I had a 5000 system, I woul...
Downsizing advice
It may be a little more than you are looking for, but take a look at the Jeff Rowland Concentra II. I'm not too sure what they are going for used, but I think you might like it. Also, from what I hear, Plinius MK 8200 is definitely a piece worth c...
How have your tastes changed?
I would say drastically. I used to listen to only country. Once my system started to sound better I realized every country recording I had sounded like trash. So I started to listen to other stuff. Now I'm into a bunch of bluegrass that I would no...
Are you spending your time at the computer instead
Artemus 5, that's a real nice problem to have. I wish I were so lucky. I don't own 200 albums, and it has taken me about 7 years to gather the meager collection I have. I'm jealous.
Stereo or Home Theater?
I actually ignore the home theater idea all together in my home. For one or two simple reasons. I can't afford to build a really nice 2-channel setup yet. Let alone doing five or more channels. It's about the music for me. Movies are cool, but I d...
new home new power.
My only suggestion would be to look into changing the 20 amp breaker to a 30 amp breaker. Especially if your speakers like to draw the current from the amplifier.
Need inexpensive amp help and questions on Hype
I agree that an integrated is the way to go. There are so many choices with integrateds in your price range these days. I would start by looking to see what your local dealer carries.
Are you spending your time at the computer instead
I split my time. I do listen a lot, and that hasn't changed since I have started to use Audiogon. But I also listen while I'm looking at Audiogon instead of say watching TV. I guess you could say I listen more because of it.
Novice attempting to bi-amp. Help
I have had the best luck with horizontal bi-amping. I have heard that if you can bi-amp vertically, you should be better off, because then you are actually running monoblocks. Give a separate power supply to each channel. In my experience, while u...
Best sub for B&W matrix 805
You might want to contact B&W on that. I'm sure they would be able to tell you which ones in their current line would mate well with the matrix 805. They got back to me when I wrote them, but it took them a couple days. Just a thought.
Preamp choice for Paradigm Active 20
Don't own them, but have heard Sunfire and Rotel pre amps. Much prefered the sunfire, but would look around for others. Maybe the anthem pre?
Best powered mini monitors w/out sub
Well, if you could afford to go a little more, you wouldn't do better than the Paradigm Active Studio 20 available right now on audiogon for 750.
Where is my weakest link?
I agree, I would say the amp is the weekest link. Musical Fidelity would be a good choice for 2 channel amplification. Also, a dedicated CD player would do you really well..
Inwall Speaker Cable & Bi-Wire Question:
You can pretty much use any cable you want in the walls. Especially if it is a new construction. Much easier to run wire that way. Use the cable that sounds best to you. As far as bi-wiring, it won't hurt the sound any using a bi-wire cable, but i...
