What do you see as the downside of tubes? Exactly Fernando- I don't see ANY downside to tubes AT ALL. Your perspective will be based on your love for the sound of music.
5AR4 rectifier tubes - Chinese or Russian? If the Mullards are beyond what you'd like to spend, you might look into those Japanese Mullard copies. I've no personal experience with them, but if Kevin gives them his endorsement- that speaks volumes.(http://www.upscaleaudio.com/Japanese-5AR4_...
5AR4 rectifier tubes - Chinese or Russian? Your rectifier tube will have a marked effect on the overall sound of your unit. By going cheap there, you'll be ripping yourself off for a lot of music. If you went with a pair of NOS Mullards (GZ34/CV1377, from the Blackburn plant), they'd proba...
Bad Hum Coming Through Amp, What Happened? DITTO what Almarg said about a possible ground problem. Maybe a loose star ground, or a cold solder joint at a ground point. Definitely not output stage, because it varys with volume control.
Aftermarket pickup tube felt Valuable tip!!
Aftermarket pickup tube felt (http://www.musicdirect.com/product/74560) I haven't seen the felt separately. Here's an option:(http://www.walkeraudio.com/vortex_vrt.htm) And a review about it: (http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue40/vortex.htm)
amplifier needs How loudly do you intend to play these extension speakers? If you won't be using the receiver at it's higher output capabilities; it's not going to have any "thermal runaway" issues. If you just intend to provide music at moderate volume levels, y...
What amp do I need to power my Acoustat 1100 I agree on all points. It seemed the OP was leaning more toward SS, and thus my first response(regarding MOSFETs, high output, no thermal runaway). Knife fight? Bring an M-16(why waltz when you can rock 'n roll)! The AVA amps I suggested would sti...
What amp do I need to power my Acoustat 1100 By, "wonders" I meant what I said in my initial post. Obviously eliminating noise is not a, "wonder". Here are some others that have found what I have with regards to the benefits of tube rolling in pre-amps:(http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/tub...
Dissapointed with my new speakers You'd certainly think so, wouldn't you? Are they in the same room as the Klipsch system(living room)? Perhaps they are sensitive to their placement in the room? Have you tried moving them, with relation to the room boundaries? If they are in a dif...
Dissapointed with my new speakers Krell man is correct. The woofers' break-in can be accelerated by facing the cabinets toward one another(closely) and reversing the wires on one's input. This will put them out of phase with each other and cancel some of the sound. Pick some music...
amplifier needs Just be certain that the speakers you're using are at least a nominal 8 ohms each. Hooking two per channel will lower the impedance the receiver sees to 4 ohms, and you don't want to go any lower. Other than that- you should be fine.
What amp do I need to power my Acoustat 1100 Ns said, "I think this has become a popular misconception. If you want to roll tubes to tailor the sound of your system, you need a tube amplifier. In a preamp (with the exception of a PHONO preamp), the tubes aren't used for amplification, and th...
What amp do I need to power my Acoustat 1100 If you want to use SS; find an amp with MOSFET outputs. They will maintain stability at low impedance levels. One can practically arc weld with some MOSFET amps. I used modded Hafler DH-500s with Acoustat Model IIIs(in the early '80's) with great ...
handheld voltmeter OH- If you go Rat Shack: Some of their meters have permanent test leads, and they go bad FAST. Be certain what you get has plug-in leads. Then again- spring for a Fluke, and you'll never regret it. |
